Assumed it was the bulb and replaced with new, but no luck. The high beam indicator dash light works when using either the button or the trigger.
I read that the relay can be a problem. I assumed if the dash light was working it probably wasn't the relay, but replaced it anyway. No change. I do have the bulb out of the housing for testing --I'm not sure if it needs to be seated to work?.
Can't tell where the wire comes from either. I'm guessing I'll have to take all the plastics off to try to trace it back [bang]
Unless anyone has any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks much.
if you pull the headlight wire back to the head tube area there is another connector that leads to the main wire harness that ultimate ends up at your switches and ECU.
The h4 bulb has a ground, low and high, i believe its black, yellow and white. You can check the harness, but unless you have a specific spot thats wearing, its unlikely.
have you tried teh fuse?
also what bike do you have?
Thanks for the reply. The bike is a '99 ST2 (in my sig). So it's got an H3 for the regular beam and an H1 for the high-beam.
The high-beam has a single white wire that goes a short distance before it ends up in a big wrap with the rest of the gauge wiring.
Everything I can see looks pretty pristine --no obvious cuts, tears, traces of friction, melting or discoloration.
The high and low beam share the same 15A fuse, so good there.
Just not sure where else to look...
Do you have 12 volts at the white wire when you turn on the high beam? Is the socket grounded? Does the high beam work when you press the pass switch?
Ok... confirmed bad ground at the light housing and the bulb was dead, too.
Need to find a good electrical for dummies guide.
As long as you get the ground wire to something metal that directly contacts the frame you should be good.
