Title: Brake Question. Monoblock Vs Standard radial Brembos
Post by: koko64 on May 07, 2017, 01:40:41 AM
Do the Brembo monoblock radial calipers run the same master cylinders as the regular radial calipers like for example on HM1100S Vs HM1100 models? People report much stronger braking with the monoblocks but is it also a function of the master cylinders?
Cheers.

Maybe a check of the part numbers from the downloadable parts catalogs from the ducati website (for each model) would give you the clarification you are looking for.

Yep monoblocks use master cylinder 62440511A and regular calipers use 62440502A. I'm guessing different ratio. Regular are not as strong, have a longer, softer travel, but have beautiful feel. Monoblocks are race level power and some report require an organic pad to be less grabby and give more feel since they are that strong with an initial savage bite.

I'm personally a fan of the regular masters. Unless you're trying to hammer down from 150MPH into a turn, the regular should be much more enjoyable.

Im scoping a HM1100S to turn into an air cooled Hyperstrada. If I get it I will swap the forged wheels and complete front brake system onto my tuned HM1100Evo. If my right knee cant be fixed I'll have to sell the Gixxer track bike and use the Evo for track duties and solo canyon riding.
Other posts have indicated my plans to build my own Hyperstrada. In that regard the monoblock calipers and master cylinder will be too much on dirt roads, but better on the Evo. I've been informed that the S model suspension can be more readily set up for supple, compliant performance than the Sachs and regular Marzocchi parts.
There are a bunch of dirt and busted up pavement roads in desert country on the northwest state border to be explored.
