Does anyone know if the old 821's can be reprogrammed with the new 821 software to allow for the 180/55/17 rear instead of the 180/60/17? The only tires that come in 180/60 for a sport bike are the Diablo Rosso II and III. Considering the limited life of those, I am running the Angel GT, but in a 190/55/17 as it's as close as I can get. But because it is slightly smaller in diameter (~1.1%) it exacerbates the already slightly fast speedo and racks up miles faster than I should.

I really want to be able to run the proper size tire on this but not at the expense of the ridiculously limited mileage. The stock Ross II lasted 6000 miles vs my last Angel GT at 14000.

Can't you run whatever tire you want, and use GPS to calculate speed, and mileage?

Unfortunately no. The bike also has traction control. Wheel speed is used in the calculation and anything different will cause "intervention".

That's been the 'issue' with Ducati traction control from the beginning. It's based on one tire, and isn't adjustable for diameter.

Right. It would be nice if the setting menu had the option to adjust for tire diameter. But yeah, that oddball size for a street bike really limited options. I emailed Pirelli to see if they were planning to offer the Angel GT in a 180/60 but I never heard back.

2 years and 36k miles, I plan to keep this bike for a while...

It shouldn't be difficult to do. They just are in bed with Pirelli, and have been from the beginning.

A wild ass probably useless suggestion since I know neither the rolling radius of the 189/60 on your bike or the clearance problems you might have with a 190, but what about 190/50 or /55?

I'm currently running an Angel GT in a 190/55, but as I said, it's still 1.1% less diameter than a 180/60. All told, I have measured a solid 10% increase in measured speed over actual speed which means I'm also logging 10% more mileage than I should (GPS confirmed).

I found the speedo on my S4 read high compared to what a GPS read live, but the odometer matched what the GPS said for a particular trip.

ask your dealer about it, the "new new 821" supposedly comes with a standard size rr tyre . .  so, I will assume DDS2.0 should have "a fix" for tyre diameter

Right, but it will allow me to use a wider variety of tires than just the Rosso series. If they can flash the ECU to make the change, then I could run a 180/55 and not have to worry about interventions from the traction control or miscalculated mileage.
