Hello,
Is it typical for the Ducati monster gearboxes when you engage 1st gear it comes
with a clunk, a kind of distinctive but very strong clacking.
Also shifting to second is a bit rough, after that its a brease.
Could it be the plates are wearing or is it just a Ducati thing.
When i put the engine in fifht gear and release the clutch on idle it stalls immediatly so
the speaks against wearing.
My motorcycle is a 620 monster capirex from the year 2004.
Many thanks,
MH
More a Ducati thing than many other bikes. At higher revs and more abusive riding (racing heritage) it's better that it requires firm shifting. Not so great when cruising through town.
It would be clunkier than normal IF the clutch isn't adjusted correctly or if you have air trapped in the fluid.
Thanks,
I noticed that when i push the bike forward and let it roll a little
the shifting in 1st gear is much more smooth.
Could that explain something about wear?
With normal use the plates must hold 18000km before they
have to be changed i guess?
MH
You are experiencing clutch drag. Some is normal on your wet clutch bike, particularly when cold. Check the slave cylinder for leaks and try bleeding.
Is it 5-speed or 6-speed?
It' s a 6-speed gear box.
So you've got the Adler 'slipper' clutch.
If you're hard on the clutch, it can be prone to slipping.
As Howie and Stopintime said, flush and bleed is a good low-cost countermeasure to the clunkyness.
If you have an adjustable lever fitted, set it 'out' a notch and see if that helps.
Ok thanks for your replies, ill try bleeding it and see
of it helps a bit.
The lever itself is not adjustable but there' s a little
screw inside the lever, that can be turned in or out.
There's a drop of glu on it.

The drop of glue is there to discourage you. That adjustment is for free play. Too little free play and your clutch will slip.
I bled the clutch today, no air bubbles in the system.(dot4)
I use 10w40 castrol motor oil jasoma2, so thats ok to me.
When i put the motor on a paddock stand and put it in 1st gear with the clutch engaged the rear wheel
starts to turn.
After it has stopped when braking its starts to turn again.
With a warmed up engine 80+ degrees celcius it doesn't turn that easy any more, and after braking
it doesnt start to turn.
Are these normal actions or is there a problem with the clutch system?
I've tried several "for wet clutch" motorcycle oils, and the only one that makes my APTC clutch work its best is Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40. YMMV.

Sounds more like drag to me.
