Title: Can the new 2-valve 1100 get moar power?
Post by: showerfan on April 17, 2018, 04:59:00 AM
Looking at the new Scrambler 1100, I’m struck by how perfect the bike looks. I’m in love, frankly, though I’d like an unpainted, brushes aluminum tank. But the important part — the engine — has been fairly well neutered, just looking at the specs.

The Monster 1100 Evo made 103 nm at 6,000 rpm, whereas the new motor in the Scrambler makes 88 nm at 4,750 rpm. I like it better down low but I can’t help thinking it could be moar, we’re it not for euro 4 regulations.

Anyone know if something can be done, beyond installing and open exhaust and a new map? Would it be worth it to sincerely modify the ending?

I suspect the problem is the airbox size and single throttle body, both results of Scrambler packaging.
Engine is over 1/3 more displacement than the 800.
Single throttle body is now 55mm, up from 50, so that's moved in the right direction.

The scrambler only has one throttle body?

My 1100 EVO has 2. I think part of the restriction is going to be based on the fact that you are bottle necking the air flow due to a 2V motor.

Also the bike weighs a LOT more. I'm not sure if this is the design or the fact that there is a metal tank and more emissions restrictions.

You can get an 1100 EVO down to 395lb wet pretty easily.

I can't remember where, but there was a 'journalist' reporting from the press launch - about how Ducati used half a day to explain why this bike is better despite the lower power, lower torque AND heavier weight. Not very convincing.

Full torque fun at 4,750 revs is very much like the Hyper 1100 and the Multi 1100 - quite capable bikes - just requires earlier shifts.

Wasn't there also a change in the way that power output figures were determined some time back?

Yes, and all numbers are changed on ducati.com to reflect homologation numbers = numbers in the paperwork. In my paperwork they listed Kw instead of bhp to hide the difference between legal numbers and "Ducati-numbers".... which have been pure lies for several years. There's quite a lot of internet whining about the Panigale new L4 vs old L2 numbers and Ducati can't inform and explain because they would then admit that they, in fact, have been lieing.

If the airbox is an EPA/Euro4/5 sound muffler and as restrictive as the one in the Sportsclassic and Hyper then it could be a candidate for a velocity stack and large pod intake kit similar to WASP, Corse Dynamics, etc. You would only need one the correct size ;D. It would have to help despite the 2 into 1 Harley manifold. It would need a good remap that's for sure.

Any secrets you`d like to share?
Scrambler 1100 cams not same as earlier 1100 ones?
Or are you suggesting DP cams? [evil]
