I went out this morning and got the correct NGK Iridium plugs for my 2003 620. I pulled the plug socket off the lower cylinder and moved it to the side while I removed the plug. When I looked again the plug wire end was laying on the ground and the wire was just dangling there.....I looked at it closely and saw what looked like a screw in the "boot" where the wire would seat, but didn't see any broken off wire or a way to recrimp what had disconnected. I did some parts searching and noticed that the coil and cable seem to be a set while the "cap" is a separate piece. How do I reattach the cap? I pushed it back onto the wire solidly and put it on the plug, then started the bike and it ran normally. It still weirds me out that it could become disconnected at any time.
Clip off about a 1/4" of the wire with sharp cutters, and screw the end back on. Motorcycle ignition wires have been like that for a long time, and work fine.
You also might want to do the other wire at the same time.

Great. Thanks. Follow up question....the lower/front cylinder wire has zero slack for me to shorten it. Do they sell the wire itself separately, or does it only come with the coil?

You may be able to alter the routing to get some slack.
Make sure it's not positioned where it can foul the throttle mechanism between the throttle bodies.
Some coils the wires are factory-attached, others are screw-in like the cap.
Not sure what style you've got.

I checked and (of course) the spark plug lead/wire is attached permanently to the coil. My local Ducati shop gave the same (clip the lead back 1/4") advice so I'll try that. I did see that the lead was routed underneath the throttle body for the upper cylinder so I moved it kinda "in between" the two to get a bit of slack....I guess that was wrong? It doesn't appear to be positioned where it could affect the mechanism.

As long as it can't get into the linkage you'll be fine.
