Hi there,
My Ducati Monster 620 engine makes a weird sound, i dont know how to call it.. so lets just call it a 'tickling / scratching sound'.
I tried recording it, check it out in the link below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze5r53DyuBs&feature=youtu.be
When in neutral (like in the video) it's hard to hear it. However when i ride 60+ mph, you hear it pretty well.
Two things come to my attention:
- It seems to be come worse when the engine gets hotter
- The sound pretty much vanishes when i pull in the clutch
Would love to hear your thoughts on this! I drove a other 620 before this and it souds 'new' to me..
Not easy to hear from the video, but I think you'll have answers when you remove the clutch cover.
+1
Stop riding it and investigate.
Drain the oil and examine it and the sump plug.
The noise being eliminated by pulling the clutch is telling you something and hearing it at 60mph is a concern. Is it a late model 620?
Others will chime in, but there are threads on this so a search is worth the effort. There was a clutch type that gave trouble with some models and some members here have experience with it.
That's a very noisy wet clutch and gives my M900 dry clutch a run for its money.

Absolutely!!!!
Can't tell anything decisive from the video, but I have a feeling the crank kinda banging around. I would start with removing both side covers and looking for play. Also check the flywheel nut.

It's a 2003 model. I agree, it's very noisy for a wet clutch. I drove two different kind of 620s before and havent really heard it like this before.

Metal parts :-\
These clutches have weak primary drive and driven gears. Happens too often that they break. It could be something else, I don't know. Open the side covers first and see what you can find, or not, and go from there - internally maybe >:(
It might help us help you if you take and learn to post pictures. (you need a hosting service or similar - then link them here)

Cool. I'll look into it. Do i need to replace my oil when removing clutch cover? Just replaced it 3 weeks ago, so..
If the bike is vertical, as on a lift or a rear stand you will not lose much oil. If you see metal particles, obviously a change will be needed.
Thanks!

I think this is exactly the same problem.
