Can someone take a picture of the fuel tank pump connector if they own this bike for me?
In a pinch long ago my fuel tank connector broke apart and I replaced it from a completely inappropriate connector from radio shack. Fast forward to now, my tank had a leak so I removed it for repair and connector came off the wires and now I have no clue what positions they're in. There's two black wires, one red and one yellow on the tank side and there's blue/black, black, white/brown and brown/white wires on the bike side.
The wiring diagram is a bit confusing as it doesn't correspond to the color wires on my bike. It doesn't list a blue/black (or black/blue) only b, bk, br/w and w/br wires.

What engine and year is this? Maybe then I can look up the schematic and the wires will end up in the same places in my bike so I can translate the colors of the wires on this bike to the color wires on my own.

it's a 2000 900Sie. I know I've replaced the sending unit, but I believe the other end is stock.

I wonder... Your wires don't match the diagram I have at all. I'll look for a 2001 diagram, maybe your bike is a late model year and they started using newer cables or something??? Exactly the photo yi was hoping for though, thanks again.

I had a scan of the wiring diagram, but I can't find it. FWIW, the diagrams weren't necessarily accurate.
I have a 2000 M900Sie. My engine-side wires are the same color as yours.
Engine side --> Tank side
dark green --> yellow(?)
dark brown / white --> red
light brown / white --> dark green
black --> black

Thanks, it does somewhat, I've traced my wires so I know what wire is what on the bike side. Now my only problem is on the tank side it looks like I have two black wires and I have no idea which is which. I ordered an eBay part hopefully in better condition than my own because I just had to repair a wire that ripped it from the base of it and although I got the solder and wire on it's not something I have any confidence in.

Hey, I started reading your painting sticky, some great info there! Thanks! Any advice for rinsing blast media out of a tank? I was planning to rinse with just water, followed by alcohol to evaporate the water and then gas to avoid rust. I'm not sure a plain water rinse will be good enough. My buddy had a dark black "sand" if that's any help to you answering my question. Thanks in advance!

The black sand is called Black Beauty, and is a slag by product of burning coal.
Did you blast the tank with the openings uncovered?
I'd avoid a water rinse, but that's just me. It will leave as much grit inside as any other method, and add the rust issue.
Assuming the tank is dry inside, I'd turn the tank upside down which will allow the sand to fall to the smooth surface. Slap the tank with the flat of your hand to get any that is trapped in the seams to fall. Manipulate the tank so it all goes to the area to the rear of the filler. Then brush, or vacuum, it out. If you get creative, you can make a small diameter extension for a vacuum and go in through the sending unit hole. There is a screen for the pump, which will prevent any pieces from getting into it, and a filter to prevent any really fine dust from getting to the injectors.

Thanks, yes, rust in a tank like this would be a nightmare, I had to repair the hinge at the bottom so I cut out a square around the hinge and welded a patch and then re welded the hinge back on. I blasted the area around the square i cut out. Shook out as much as I could, vacuuming before the weld would have been a better idea but you're right, I can be creative and get in there with some flexible tubing and tap around lightly with a rubber mallet, tank is effed so I'm not too worried ;). Both black wires are grounds, the larger gauge traced wire is for the pump, the other is for the fuel level sending unit

Alright great, I thought that at first until that last person commented that his fuel/level unit had 4 colors and mine only has 3, I got a little worried that it matters which is which.
Why did you cut the hinge off?
If it was just leaking, brazing the perimeter, and then coating the tank, would have been the prescribed method.

It had been poorly welded by a friend before, worked for a while but started leaking again and I just thought it better to start over, it came out great this time.

You need to fix the dents first, then etch and coat.
The etching will remove any light rust that forms until you get things done.
Regarding the two black wires on the tank side, I noticed that with a closer look one is a very dark green; I thought it was black at first. The dark green (black) wire is thinner than the truly black wire.

Thanks, I ended up buying a second hand level sensor so that isn't a problem anymore, I tried removing the connector and ripped one of the leads out from the base of the sender :/ great info to anyone reading this in the future, of cleaning it really well and inspecting with a bright light doesn't help I would try a light steel wool or fine sandpaper to rough up and brighten the color possibly, it does appear on the new to me unit that one less is a smaller gauge but on my original I can't tell the difference.
Right now I am stuck clearing the gas cap drain hard line, thought maybe the was an internal check valve, but no, it's clogged at the bend.
That's a common issue. Put some phosphoric acid in there, and work at it with a piece of flexible wire.
I used to make a 'snake' out of twisted mig wire, and put it in a drill...like roto-rooter. ;D
