Title: 2011 796 APS readings with DDS
Post by: TRICKYT on October 05, 2018, 08:53:28 AM
Hi Guys, need some Technical help. Took the 796 to the local dealer today to have the DDS hooked up to check the parameters of components, mainly the TPS and the APS, due to some rough running and cutting out on idle during warm up. The Techi said everything seemed hunky dory, but I queried the figure for the ATMOSPHERIC  PRESSURE which was reading 14.6 psi.. As a ferrari tech and old school mechanic I questioned this and asked if that was the APS reading ,which would of course cause overfueling  and symptons i'm experiencing. The Ducati trained Techi didnt know what it was or meant. I'm hoping someone who is fluent with the DDS can tell me if my APS is dodgey. I have of course checked the connection and the 2 small pipes for splits etc, which, if anyone is interested can be removed and checked just my moving the wiring a bit and NOT taking the fuel tank off as is the reccomendation. Thanks in advance guys.

So the 796 has a map sensor? Interesting. 14.6 sounds like the bike wasn't running, if the APS is reading manifold air pressure.

On the other hand, earlier bikes don't have a map sensor but do have an "altitude" sensor... Which is the same thing just not hooked up to the manifold on the vacuum side.

14.6 PSI =1bar usually map will read that if you are at sea level

yeah guys, it has a Air Pressure Sensor, 3 pins, 2 small vacc pipes ,one to each inlet manifold. It seems that 14.s psi is as you say at sea level which you may expect to see if engine not running and reduce in value when vacc is applied to pipes. All this the main dealer technician should know  >:( I.ve just had a meter across it and applied vacc to it but couldnt get any fluctuation. It may need a 5v feed and earth and then check for variable on the 3rd pin but i'm reluctant to do this in case i buzz it. I could just do with someone that knows exactly what readings i should have. Iget the feeling it should show barometric pressure @14.7 at rest . oh well fingures crosssed .  [bang] Thanks for inputs.
