Title: Brake light issues
Post by: Rocketman99 on June 19, 2019, 04:08:42 PM
Sorry if this is one of those topics that has been beating to death but, I couldn't find what I was looking for.

I'm having issues with my brake light on my 2012 Ducati Monster 796. The tail light is illuminated and the turn signals work but when I compress the front or rear brake the brake light does not illuminate. I bought this thing second hand and I don't have a service manual so I'm not familiar with where the fuses or relays are for this bike. I did check the fuses on the throttle side of the bike on the frame hanging below the fuel tank. Those all seem to be fine.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to check next or where the brake fuse and relay are located?

I appreciate the help.

Check the bulb (assuming it's not LED) as it is a double filament type - running and brake. See if you can switch it out with a working one.

I should have stated that it is the LED type. I also have another aftermarket with integrated turn signals and a stock LED tail light. Same results with both

Thanks for the reply though

Were you able to diagnose/resolve your issue?

Nothing yet. I've gone through all the connectors and and fuses with no results. I'm trying to locate any relays that may be linked to the tail light but I'm not having any luck finding any documents that help identify them.

to try to explain;

as on a s2r 07; as you probably know, the electrical break light switches are controlled by a switch under the front break lever (just under the lever) take the lever off and check switch with your finger; and the rear foot break lever or switches - one of the other may - be out of adjusted too tight? both are connected together with micro light switches to activate the rear light bulb. The electrical lever switch on the front is small plastic easily broken; small and delicate; but tucked under the front  lever so well protected...

is break light always on? always off? 2 filament bulb: is that the proper 2 filament led bulb in socket? socket connections bent? Bulb properly seated? check wiring and connections under the seat near the light socket. Its relatively simple electrical wiring; but adjustments can sometimes be fine; the mechanical connection might be too tight or missing all together.

hope that helps ...

He has an LED lamp...no filaments.
