Title: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: koko64 on June 26, 2019, 05:09:19 AM I just purchased the last WASP intake kit from Todd at Bunbury Ducati in Western Australia. The intake kit is for an M1100Evo and comes complete with all the brackets, breather filters , etc required to mount the large velocity stacks and Ignition/electrical components. They are ceasing production and Todd said it was with some sadness that he put the last kit together.
I will report back when I test the kit (and find a bike to test it on). Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: greenmonster on June 26, 2019, 08:52:28 AM WASP R.I.P. :'(
Too bad, seems like a nice improvement: https://www.ducati.ms/forums/42-monster/88258-monster-ous-bee-haitch-pee-kit-4.html Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: koko64 on June 27, 2019, 11:29:04 AM The biggest improvement was with the Sportclassics and Hypermotards with their very restrictive airboxes. The Intake Express website is down so a bunch of dyno charts are no longer available. I think the gains with the Monster are akin to that of a well designed open airbox, but the packaging restrictions on the Monsters are tight. I note that Todd tuned an M900ie but didn't use the WASP kit but opened and modified the airbox for a good gain. EVR made a carbon performance airbox with carbon velocity stacks [drool] for the Hyper but it was the price of an M750. The packaging is even tighter on the M1100Evo with the TC and ABS modules. The WASP kit has brackets for the tidy location of those components so easy serviceability is also an issue.
Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: cencalal on June 27, 2019, 07:16:33 PM Koko, you may recall this from a couple of years ago: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=74219.0 ...just ignore the parts about how to post photos. I recall seeing the kit you mention, but couldn't justify the price at the time, so I made my own from some S4 velocity stacks and pod filters and hose clamps. The photos from the old post show my first effort with foam UNI filters, which I eventually replaced with K&Ns. The foam filters were just unbearably loud, even with earplugs, the K&Ns which have metal end caps are noticeably better. Either filter an exact fit as are the stacks to the M695 elbows. Cost about $80. Sorry, still no dyno test data, but still the same grin every time I wind it on.
Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: koko64 on June 28, 2019, 02:57:09 AM Ah, I remember, that was cool [thumbsup]. I had a similar set up on my Hyper Evo which was a mix of WASP and Corse Dynamics parts. Added about 10hp with vivid acceleration .
Cheers Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: cencalal on June 28, 2019, 07:23:41 AM My initial impression when I changed to the closed end cap K&Ns was that there was a bit more power with the open ended foam filters. I'm going to put the UNI filters back on just to compare, but I know I won't like the noise...

Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: koko64 on July 04, 2019, 01:29:14 AM K&N barrel filters are not quite as long as those in the Corse Dynamics kit, but are a larger diameter at both ends. Cosi cosi. The WASP velocity stacks are respectively to a little wider in outer diameter to suit and have the golf ball dimples, but otherwise a similar design concept with big filters and velocity stacks tapering down to the TB diameter. The advantages of this kit are the specific dyno derived maps available and the neat stainless brackets for battery/ECU/ignition, PCV, ABS and DTC modules. Others may make nice brackets but I paid for the convenience of nice prefab parts as I'm not that handy.
Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: greenmonster on July 04, 2019, 03:38:55 AM Has anyone used C D or WASP velocity stacks on
a 1k/1100 w an opened airbox? Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: koko64 on July 04, 2019, 05:36:15 AM I dont know how much work would need to be done, but it must be substantial. At least your Multi has a good airbox worth opening.
Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: greenmonster on July 05, 2019, 08:13:47 AM You think C D or WASP fits inside MTS airbox w lid on?
C D stacks don't have the golfball cavities, right? Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: koko64 on July 05, 2019, 12:39:06 PM I think the TPO Beast kit (not R version which are the CD type), may fit as they are smaller. I don't know if there is enough room for the CD/Beast R stacks in an MTS airbox. The MTS just needs an open or semi open airbox. It appears to have decent volume compared to many desmodue airboxes. I will be opening up an MTS airbox soon and will have a better idea then.
I honestly don't know if the golf ball dimples help as I'm not qualified to say and I haven't seen it before. I went for the local product to get the tuning base and support. I prefer to buy local or from sponsors here, but it's the map data that makes the mod work. Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: greenmonster on July 07, 2019, 04:38:58 AM Ok, thx.
Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: koko64 on September 12, 2019, 06:56:24 AM Well I fitted the kit and PCV today. Bloody hell the Evo is a tight squeeze under the tank. Everything is in everything's way so that just removing the tank is time consuming. The complete WASP kit provided brackets for the ECU, PCV, relays, solenoid, front coil and ABS unit. The kit also had spacer fittings for the breather and idle air valve filters.Because the PCV is under the tank and removing the tank takes time I've run the PCV tuning USB cable up to under the seat to make future dyno tuning easy if required. It's a long cable so that helps. The PCV came with a dynoed map for this bike with WASP kit, DP ECU & Termis. I haven't tested any O2 Optimizers or eliminator as yet so the closed loop section is not tuned, but strangely it is smoother at lower revs. The revs rise more quickly too.
The oem airbox was such a tight fit that even if the WASP kit only made oem power I would fit it to make servicing easier. Dead set, the Hyper was easier to work on such is the compact nature of the Monster Evo. Performance in open loop range was as expected [evil] Title: Re: WASP KIT RUNOUT Post by: koko64 on September 12, 2019, 03:33:47 PM Update.
So an angry bike just got angrier. The change in intake noise is quite noticable but only under acceleration but the effect on exhaust note is there too, deeper and more strident as the revs rise and fall. More later with pics.
