Title: Carlin Dunne
Post by: paso87 on July 09, 2019, 06:32:48 PM
Hello to the SOCODOGs out there. I think I will address the elephant in the room i.e. Carlin Dunne. I know there was a great deal of excitement about the Streetfighter and Carlin riding it. People came from a long way to see the bike and Carlin riding it.All the prerace times made it seem like there was going to be a reasonable chance of winning on the bike and setting a new record. People at Fan Fest got to meet Carlin and see the bike. My wife must have told Carlin about me before I got there and when I stood in front of him he said my reputation got there before I did. All I could say was: "What?" He was one of the instructors at the DRE Enduro two day class that started the day I left Sundance. Great hand shake and very personable, and definitely not a prim-madonna. Definitely not John Kocinsky! Those who participated in the All Roads Lead to Pikes Peak promotion got to see Carlin and Codie Vasholtz at the El Pomar grounds the evening of the race and Codie and Carlin rode up into the tent on the bikes with the engines and throttles twisted. We got a little personal time with them which made it a little harder to take especially after seeing him 12 hours before the time he was gone. I am sure we all have taken this pretty hard. Today is Tuesday and Cycle News (yes they are still around) had an article written by Rennie Scaysbrook who set the record on race day. The article is on page 118-119 and I think Rennie will give you an idea about Carlin Dunne the man. The piece is called an "Impeccable Man."And by the way Cycle News does a great job covering motorcycle racing of all kinds.
