tilt to turn, don't hit anything.... sound familiar?
Trism. $5, and worth at least twice that. http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=284653044&mt=8 (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=284653044&mt=8)
I haven't purchased any games yet, so I can only comment on the free ones and most of those aren't worth much.
However, the first one I purchase will probably be the solataire game from Ambrosia Software on their site. It's $10, but it supposedly has like 100 different varieties of one player card games.
I've used iToner from Ambrosia and it freaking rocks. They usually put out pretty nice mac and apple related software. iToner is a program that allows you to add your own ringtones to the iPhone without paying a per ringtone fee. The only downside is that you can't edit the ringtones using iToner, so you have to have a program to edit them first or create them using your existing mp3s, but I still found it totally worth it.

iToner + audacity is the bizness. I actually used pro tools to edit a few before I searched for a lightweight solution, but audacity does all you need.

I'm assuming audacity is for mac? Is it freeware? If not, how much is it. I found a freeware program for my PC that I use to make the ringtones and then just use my jumpdrive to put them on my macbook and onto iToner, but it'd be nice to have a freeware program for mac to edit the mp3s.

Yep. For mac and it's freeware. You can download at sourceforge I'm pretty sure.
you can actually do it within iTunes [thumbsup]

First, you do have to create a ringtone - you can use iTunes to trim a song down to the 15 to 30 seconds or so that you want to use as a ringtone, by selecting the song in your Library, click on “Get Infoâ€, click on the Options tab, and change the start and stop times to isolate the snippet you want, click Okay, then click on Advanced >Convert to AAC. This will create a second, shorter version of the song in your Library, which you can find using the Finder (should be located in your /User/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/ folder under the Artist and Album name). NOTE that this only works on unprotected songs - not those that you've purchased as iTunes will not convert songs that are in Protected AAC format.
it's for the 1st gen, but i LoVe this game
frenzic (http://frenzic.com/iphone/)
Like all great puzzle games, Frenzic's premise is simple. Keeping up with it is the challengeâ€"it draws you in hypnotically and ramps up fast. It's a premise we've seen repeated countless times since Tetris came on the scene in the 1980s, and like Tetris, it's addictive and beguilingly simple. It's also Mac-only.
If you manage to finish a complete pie using only one color, you'll get an extra life. And believe me, you'll need it. Because once you get going, the action ramps up fastâ€"you have to place a piece in a limited amount of time, and that time grows shorter the more you play. If the time bar goes all the way to the red, you lose a life. One of the great challenges of Frenzic is finding a home for all your pieces. Since you can't rotate the pieces that show up, you have only six possible spots for each piece on the game board. It makes you think twice about whether you want to try to complete each circle using only one color. In many cases, it's either mix up colors or die.
Three of the circles are “power-up†spaces. Completing a pie in these spaces activates a power upâ€"one doubles points for 25 seconds; another “nukes†the entire board clear of pie pieces; the third slows the game time for 25 seconds. The Nuke is by far the most useful for me, though the slow one comes in handy for a break.
I like tap tap revenge, cube runner, labyrinth (too easy though) & Jirbo Break (also too easy, but it's longer game play than labyrinth)
All the games I have on my iphone are free, I just can't see myself paying for entertainment unless it really, really, really rawks.
If there is an application out there that is actually useful for me, then I can see justifying paying money for it, otherwise I only have free apps on my iphone and don't see that changing.
Cube runner is a fun game, especially for free. However, the coolest app for the iPhone is definitely Shazam. You just let it listen to a song and it returns the artist, album, song title and a link where you can buy it. It identifies ANYTHING - from weird brazilian indie shit to slayer. I've been having a ton of fun with it.
Damn you iPhone. (http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/mad/mad0177.gif) (http://www.mysmiley.net)
I'm trying to convince myself not to buy you Mr. iPhone!
Now you're tempting me with these sparkly tidbits!
Can't....stop.....wanting....you.....DAMMIT!

I purchased a few
Monkey Ball - Tough as hell and very fustrating but I managed to beat it... Avoid it unless you want to chuck your iphone across the room
Space Monkey - Pretty fun cool game
Aqua Forest - To easy and short and the physics slow down the iphone to a halt
Trism - Nice Puzzle Game
Cube Runner - Free and you can upload other maps... Very cool
Aurora Feint - Would be the best free game but its bugged right now and pointless to play
Monnlight Mahjong Lite - A Free Mahjong game
Jirbo Break - Free Breakout game
Morocco - Free othello Game
Holdem - Texas 7 card. for $4.99 its the best game on the Iphone. Great AI and amazing graphics [thumbsup]
CBNK 3D - Crash Bandicoot race game. Runs like crap on my iphone and the frame rate is unplaybale =(
Labyrinth LE - Free demo game of the classic steel ball in the wooden maze game.

this was great, but recently removed due to privacy issues. apparently, if you use the "community" features, it will send your contact list, unencrypted over the network. i buy the explanation that the developers gave (it allows you to play against friends without a login procedure) but still, touchy issue.
on the paid games, i bought "brain challenge" too. mainly cause my wife likes those types of games, but we're now in a heated match.

There's a fix, with both clear opt-in notices, and encryption, available on iTMS this morning.
I agree with your take: the first build looks like nothing more than a naive choice by the developers, not "enemy action". Their update addresses my concerns, and fixes some graphical issues, too.
hey, i've got a great iphone game... send a receive phone calls, like it's a goddamn phone!

Save yourself all the uneeded torment and give in. I did yesterday and love it. Sad thing is, I wanted to get the 8G black phone (I already have an 80G iPod that I am not replacing) but all they had was the 16G white. So my wife decided we should get this one, then get the 8G black one later and we trade. lol

A perfect quick strategy game, like Risk, but loads faster, and with itty bitty triangular space ships. Satisfying games in 30 seconds! Addictive. $10.
SPORE [thumbsup]

The 1098 is the second to last vehicle to Unlock so it will be a while for me. I have a few unlocked passed the 696.
