Title: Title help
Post by: Pinion on July 27, 2019, 09:32:45 AM
Ok, in short I have a signed bill of sale, a signed title by previous owner.
I told my son I would give him the bike when I got back from Spain. Said son was impatient and scratched out my written in info on back of title, [bang] it is clear but has lines through it, i initialed and re wrote my info being the same. NY will not accept it they consider it nfg
I bought this bike in 2016 and cannot find owner anymore, any suggestions
Thanks in advance

It looks like the start of the process is to send a certified letter to the owner's address on the title, requesting a fresh title.

Then when it gets kicked back, you take that, bill of sale, picture of VIN, etc. to DMV and file for a title.

You probably end up with a "bonded" title, which means there is an insurance policy for a few years in case the somebody else claiming to be the owner shows up.

I've done a couple of bonded titles in Arizona with no trouble other than time and a little money. We have third-party vendors of DMV services, and they'll do all the work for a fee.
