Title: Riding the 1972 Imola Race bike
Post by: paso87 on September 22, 2019, 05:57:16 PM
John Stein from Cycle World rides one of the 1972 Imola 750 factory racers.  This is the bike that put Ducati on the map.  Ducati won the 1972 race with Paul Smart on board and Bruno Spaggiari took second on a second Ducati.  John rides the bike he owns at Willow Springs raceway. It is great that this bike still gets to be seen and ridden instead of tucked away in a museum or garage or someone's living room.  In one picture John is wearing a Cycle magazine hat.  I was a subscriber to this great magazine from 1968 or 1969 until they were phased out by their publishing company in favor of Cycle World somwhere around 1991 or 1992. Cycle was head and shoulders better than Cycle World not to mention they had Cook Neilson and Phil Schilling who built and raced a Ducati in the very beginnings of Superbike in the United States.  They called it the California Hot Rod or Old Blue.
