Title: Fuel Tank Question
Post by: Bbrent on July 24, 2008, 09:46:29 AM
Ok...I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. I have an '08 S4RS and want a different tank. I know that the hole where the fuel pump fits in is oval unlike most other models of monsters. My question is, If I were to buy a tank that has a round hole and buy the right fuel pump, will this work?

Thanks,

Brian

I believe the cut out for the air box is different as well - bigger than the others.  I'm not 100% sure on this though

Just a Q, why do you want a new tank? Color scheme? at the costs of buying the parts needed you could just get yours painted.

I have a tricolre and I want to do some track days coming up. This may sound kinda anal but I don't want to scratch my new tank. I did some track last year on my CBR and was really tough on the paint so I just wanted to dress her down a bit.

Airbox + work needed to fit it and  the throttle bodies in = $_____.

If you really want to track your bike, you can get a clear protective coating. They come in sheets that you can either cut yourself, or pre cut for your bike. Much cheaper than buying another tank. If you can find a 08+ tank, then just do that, even if its more expensive it would be easier when you swap tanks.

Are you serious. It won't fit?

nope. The tank is shaped a bit differently underneath. i found a cheapie crashed 08 tank with oval, and after searching a bit, they dont fit each other. Well, what i found out was the 08 doesnt fit the 07. not the other way around, maybe does fit.

best bet would be to find a damaged tank for your year bike. then all you have to do is swap the internals for a track day

if you just want to protect the paint from rubbing against it hard while riding at the track, just put some sort of cover over it.  maybe one of those grip pads, or a tank bra
