Title: M900 back new forks
Post by: wasta on April 23, 2020, 07:54:17 AM
Hi guys, not posted for sometime as I'm on a UK Monster forum as well.
Anyway, after fitting an Ohlins shock it highlighted how bad the frontend was. I had a few options, rebuild the old forks, fit cartridges or buy some others from ebay etc.

After searching options on the internet I found that Showa were selling a new set of ST2/4, 748, 916, 996 etc forks for £250. A s the cartridge kits were £600 it seemed  no brainer.

Forks arrive from Italy in about a week and I set to. It's only when I strip the front end that I notice the axle is not the 20mm of my Monster but the later 25mm!

So then the search for a wheel, axle, speedo drive, calipers etc started. Eventually I have it all and put it together, I needed a 748 style front fender as there were no mounts for my oe one.

Anyway she lives again but, because of Covid 19 we are on lockdown and I can't ride it!

ST2/4, 748, 916, 996

Did they say the forks would fit all those models?

How do 53 mm diameter forks fit into 50 mm triples?

It's only a question.

Monster & ST are 50mm for the top & 54 for the bottom. SBK’s are 53 top & bottom.

Shim-kit?  JB weld?  (j/k)

Like the style, black 'n yellow = angry hornet [thumbsup]

Note what these guys are saying about triple clamp fitment as it's critical. Maybe they're M900ie forks for a straight fit to your triples (iirc)? Just be aware that any forks purchased may still need spring and valve work for your weight and riding style, (unless your lucky ;D). SBK forks may have spring's that are too stiff for some Monsters due to different weight bias, but if your stock springs were too soft and you're a solid bloke then they might be in the ball park for you.

Sorry, my mistake. The forks are ST everything else will fit the bikes listed.

Thanks for the comments
