Title: 2020: No time for regrets Post by: Pinocchio on October 04, 2020, 04:44:22 AM Well, I finally sold the first-year MTS 1200S Touring in July. My feeling about the sale was more of shame than of loss, since, after 9 years of aimless farkling and fettling, I never managed to use the damned thing for an adventure ride. It was a great bike on the road, and in the rough, too, from what little I could tell, but I felt silly and annoyed commuting on it, so I stopped even doing that. My regret was quickly dispelled, though, because in April I picked up a 2018 Monster 1200R with slip-on and 4600 on the clock, and the sale price of the MTS put a nice dent in that price tag.
I had an S4RS for a year in ‘09-‘10, but that was basically a 998 race bike without a fairing. The 1200R’s 11° Testastretta that I loved in the Multi is much more tractable than the old firebreather DesmoQuattro mill, and ABS and DTS delivered through 3 riding modes are welcome refinements that will help me keep the Sausage Creature from making a ghastly appearance. I hope. So, now I’m a Monster-riding hooligan again, I suppose.... Title: Re: 2020: No time for regrets Post by: Mhanis on October 06, 2020, 10:55:55 AM Nice, congratulations!! I've felt much the same way, I'd LOVE to have a FJR1300 or Concours 14 but I do ABOSLUTELY no type of riding that would justify a purchase like that at this point in my life!

I almost expect Muskrat to post next, to tell me I either need to provide pictorial proof of my new acquisition, or admit I'm lying. Title: Re: 2020: No time for regrets Post by: Pinocchio on October 06, 2020, 05:31:33 PM OK, here's the proof of life. It's the best I can do with the halogen work light. I can't believe I've had the bike since May 7 and this is the first pic I've taken of it. Of course, it took 120 days for the Dallas County DMV to send me a plate and registration, so it has spent the whole summer under a cover on the charger. See... I'm the opposite... after getting a Monster, I realized what I really want is a Multi. Maybe. I'm not sure. Maybe... deep down inside... I want both. Unfortunately, like Mark suggests... the likelihood I'd ever use a Multi for what it was intended is pretty iffy. But I can dream, can't I? |
