I was cleaning my chain when I noticed the right side heim joint under hoop was holding together by a thread. Could someone tell me if this ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/392007848523?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D0d6e0d4f8e19487eb428d77096daeb0a%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D372259571499%26itm%3D392007848523%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A9e0e9742-ff68-11eb-b773-5670d38a09ee%7Cparentrq%3A548b889517b0a9fa135cc6b8ffd3f43e%7Ciid%3A1 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/392007848523?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D0d6e0d4f8e19487eb428d77096daeb0a%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D372259571499%26itm%3D392007848523%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A9e0e9742-ff68-11eb-b773-5670d38a09ee%7Cparentrq%3A548b889517b0a9fa135cc6b8ffd3f43e%7Ciid%3A1) is suitable? Does LH or RH matter for this application? Finally, as to procedure, just pull wheel and undo Heim bolts on swingarm? The bolt may be broken inside hoop.
I've purchased replacements (which looked identical) from McMaster Carr before.
Thread (rh or lh) will certainly matter as the hoop itself is threaded. I believe it's RH thread, but someone should check me on that.
Get two. The other one needs replacement since you're in there.
For the work, you'll need a way to get the weight off of the rear wheel and from there, it's straight forward.
Thanks! Did not even think of thread direction. Somehow I thought the "eye" was directional.
2nd the McMaster-Carr source. You can also raise the ride height by going with a stud and a female threaded joint...adding length. Might want to add a skinny lock nut to that mix too.
What I did to take the load off the swing arm....
A long, 3/8" socket extension through the swing arm pivot, resting on jack stands.
The above post is likely assuming you have a 2002-2008 model. Your bike has a hoop 1993-2001. 2001 S4 has the 2002-2008 frame.
If you are referring to my post...this is how I raised the rear ride height on my 97 monster. Using a stud and a female threaded joint allows full thread engagement in the ends of the hoop (in my case, a billet aluminum one) without dramatically increasing the ride height. I thought the typical male to female adapter was too high and the few turns out allowed by the stock joint not high enough.
