Title: 95 M900 lost power
Post by: wishlist95 on March 05, 2022, 07:28:25 AM
I was tuning the carbs and got half way through when the bike just stopped.  It was a cool day so I didn't have a fan on.  Started looking abound, no power at the fuse block.  Battery is good all connections good.  After about 10 minuets everything came back on.  Is there a thermal braker in the system or am I looking at a problem down the road?

No thermal breaker.  How did you determine your connections and battery are good?

As howie said, no thermal breaker, but I'd check the main relay. It's the only thing besides the ignition switch, or a bad connection, that could shut the whole system down.

Also, as howie said, how did you determine all the connections are good?

Do you have a wiring diagram?

Started with the battery 13v,  100% ground, then to the fuse block 0v, then to the main fuse 13v in 13v out, back to the fuse block 13v.  You may be right about the relay.  Tough to check when it's working.  I do have a diagram.  Who has a good relay.

It's a pretty common relay. You should be able to source one at any auto parts store.

Look in the thread 'Alternatives to Expnsive Ducati Parts' in the thread near the top of this page.

I had a similar case not too long ago on a 900.
There was a cut wire in the wiring harness at the steering level.
Another time on another motorcycle, a sharp cut while driving, it was the main relay that was damaged.
And finally one last another 900 monster, it was a fuse that looked good looking at it, but when testing it it didn't work anymore.
Good research. ;)

Agree w above, 3 main culprits in descending order:

1. Main relay under saddle. Lift hood of it, repairable quite easy.
2. Harness at steering, worn=short. Easy repair.
3. Fuse box, intermittent connection. Repairable quite easy.

All 3 cause engine stop.

Replaced the relay and cleaned all the fuses.  No trouble yet.  I bought 2 relays by mistake, will sell one for what I paid. $14.00  If any one wants another one the Ebay vender is valtermotousa  (cheapest by far I found )
