Title: What Showa rear shocks will fit a 900ss? Post by: Jordan on May 07, 2008, 02:44:57 PM I'm kind of in rear shock hell right now. I know I can use an Ohlins 235 or 245 with my 99 900ss but what are my Showa (ultimately cheaper) options? I looked on the Showa site and they don't have a parts per bike breakdown.
Could I use a shock off say an 04 S4R? How could I tell if it would fit? Cheers, Jordan Title: Re: What Showa rear shocks will fit a 900ss? Post by: Speeddog on May 07, 2008, 04:34:25 PM ST-framed bikes ('01 S4 and all '02 and after) have shocks about 12" long.
Early monsters with the 851 style frames have shocks about 12.5" long. The one SS here at the shop has a shock about 13" long. I don't think any of the Monster ones are going to work. The shocks sell for cheap money and the valving is much better than the showa. The down side is that rebuild parts are not easy to find. I have freshened many of them and outside of a penske or ohlins that is the shock I would use.

I'm pretty sure ducvet is suggesting that no bike is necessarily sprung correctly for a given rider weight.Check sag and adjust the spring weight as necessary.
