Title: 1972 Kawasaki 750 Mach IV
Post by: paso87 on January 30, 2025, 07:25:34 PM
Yeah, yeah, yeah this is totally nothing to do with Ducatis but this is one of the memorable motorcycles from my early motorcycle riding days.  This motorcycle came out in 1972 when I graduated from high school. I have ridden a lot of motorcycles in my life but never got to ride one of these motorcycles. There was no motorcycle faster in the Quarter Mile, in the world , than the 750 Mach IV. Even in the heydays of the American Muscle Car could the Barracudas, Mustangs, Chevelles, Corvettes. and GTOs could beat a Mach IV in the 1/4 mile.

One of the sweetest sounds was a Mach IV with expansion chambers under acceleration. A Mach IV with stock pipes could cover the quarter mile in a little over 12 seconds but if you installed a set of expansion chambers on a Mach IV the bike would run in the high !!s.

One story I can tell you is of one of my younger brother's friends and his Mach IV. I was heading south on I25 South of Albuquerque,  NM. I was in my car which he recognized.  At 70 MPH he twisted the throttle a couple of times with the clutch lever pulled in and then the front wheel came up  and he accelerated away with his three expansion chambers howling.
