Hi
have replaced the stock CV carbs (38mm)with 40mm lectrons, read about Lectron sponsoring ducati in the past.
I'm running pods and a very open 2 into 1 exhaust. cables are sorted and have a ruff balance on carbs. the motor is stock other wise.
it starts and idles,
it rev's to about 3000 rpm then just goes boooooro
have tried closing to spark plug gap to 20 tho, no change
have tried restricting the muffler (fitted db killer) a little quieter but no change
the CV carbs were doing the same thing running the pods , i don't have the original air box.
tried pulling the alternator cover off but some previous (highly skilled) mechanic has put it on with something like JB wield so it wont budge with out possible damage, is this supposed to be filled with oil,
left the center cover off when i started it and oil pissed out, thinking this could be my problem, don't know,
any help would be great thanks
Brian

Hard to know where to start...
40mm certainly too big. Who jetted them?
Rev to 3000, probably runs very lean, esp since CV did the same.
There is supposed to be oil behind alt cover.
I think you need professional help and to put the CVs back w a DynoJet kit 2 for pods.
Lectron carbs are operated by electronics, no jetting. They are also usually used on dirt bikes. Yes, 40mm is too big, but that is not your big problem. They also do not list a Ducati application. Go back to your Mikunis and find out with what is really wrong with the bike. I would start with fuel pump delivery, fuel hoses and venting. Then worry about tuning.
Fuel supply hoses on carbed bikes can get kinked when the tank is dropped, verify that.
Oil is pressurized through the crankshaft so it should be spitting out with the alternator cover off and engine running.
Vacuum operated fuel pump: do you still have a vacuum line to that pump? Have you rebuilt the pump? Walbro sells a kit I think. (Been years since I did one but it was cheap and quick.)
Same problem with old carbs and new carbs? Seems like the original problem is still there.
After testing I would get either a new pump from Polaris or a rebuild kit from Mikuni or a low pressure electric pump, 3-5psi. Do you still have the vacuum operated OEM fuel cut off?
Even the stock 38 mm Mikunis are big, but work OK, so 40mm is way too big.
If you're running pods and haven't jetted for it then you will have issues for sure, whatever the carbs.
I thought Lectron made side draught carbs, so the float bowls will be at a bad angle with the stock downdraught manifolds.
If Lectron make 36mm carbs and can supply side draught manifolds you could be in business. However, it's all in the tuning. Tuning is everything, even with correct parts.
The cheapest way out is to use the stock carbs and a jet kit for pods as suggested.
Pods or an open airbox will give the symptoms you described if you haven't fitted an appropriate jet kit for those mods. The bike will struggle to rev past the mid range with stock jetting with such a significant change to the intake system.
Dynojet sell kits for those mods as do Factory Pro.
