Title: monster 620 needs recommissioning
Post by: Merlin3 on November 23, 2025, 01:02:23 AM
Its a 94 620si monster, been stored under cover outside for 10 years not used 600 miles since new. Lasr 2 years in my garage shed.
Its been vandalised- ignition barrel attacked with screwdriver and replacement alone costs £500.
And then we enter the unknown .....
Has anybody had experience of recommissioning like this pls? The decision whether to go ahead will have to be mine but any comments would help me.
For example are parts still available... the wadding pad under the fuel tank is not available even from Ducati direct for example, what about other more critical ones.... I cant start funding this then end up in a dead end unable to get the bike finished.
It could be a nice bike I reckon but is it worth it....
Thank for reading.

"Its a 94 620si monster"

For a start, exactly what model and year is it? Do you mean a -04 620 ie?
Any other damages? Pics?

Is it a '04 620, or a '94 600? Carburated, or efi? If it's a carby 600 it will be pretty simple. A fresh set of belts, tires, and the ignition. Clean the mung out of the carbs, and you should be in business. You might have a bad vacuum petcock, or fuel pump diaphragm, but there are workarounds for those.

Most parts will be available. The tricky items are rubber bits should you need any. The pad under the tank was designed to be tossed. :P

If it's a 620, in addition to fresh belts, and rubber, the biggest obstacle will be the ignition. The ecu has an immobilizer that must be defeated for the bike to run due to the new key.

Gotta be a 600 if it is a 1994.  I would start by first making sure the engine can be turned by hand.  In gear, rear wheel in the air.  Then fresh fuel after draining the carb float bowls.  Do not start the engine until you replace the timing belts.  Let us know how this works out and we can take you further.  I would also suggest you move this to Tech.

Once we get the model identified...I'll move it. He can't AFAIK.
