I can't seam to find much info on motor swaps, most threads I've found never got completed.
I can get my hands on a cheap complete 09 Multistrada 1000DS and looking at pics, mounts look to be in the same place as my 09 monster 696. Since I can get a complete running bike, I should have everything for the swap a side from having to make spacers for the mounts or chain.
Anyone swapped motors in the newer monsters?
Bolt in: yes.
Electronics: no idea.
Biggest hurdle I remember is that the MTS swingarm pivot area of the engine case is much narrower than the 696 b/c the swingarm bearings are in the arm of the MTS.
As far as I know (knew, it's been a while), there isn't a swingarm that has the bearings in it with the shock mount arrangement the same as the 696.
There will likely be other issues.
Wondering if a 796(803) engine will fit instead of a 696 due to the DSA and the 796 has the ssa? I think the UK monsters group had some info on it. You might possibly have to do some wiring on the dash plug and a reflash of the ECU= I'm not sure if the MTS has a sealed dash for a DIY.
If you use the engine + swing arm + harness + ECU + sensors & basically all other electronics... MAYBE it just leaves air box/-filter and a shock mount. Wow? [Dolph]

That.
Or, if your pockets are deep enough, a Microsquirt or other stand alone computer. You could also go old school and get a pair of flatsides.

yeah the ugly 800 lb gorilla in the room(not to be confused with a goldwing)- The 1000DS is a dual spark and the 696 is not- stopintime is pointing to the facts!
