So I finally made the move to a digital SLR. I found a stupid deal on an almost new Nikon D40 with a bunch of extras that I couldn't pass up.
Here are a few pics I took just to get the feel of it. Let me know what you guys think.

the pics look great. The water looks really werid in the first pic, like it was on a tripod with a low shutter speed. Or maybe thats jsut some freaky water!
Where do you live man? that place looks awesome.
I'm confused...
where are the pics of the camera ???
Nice job on those pics [thumbsup]. Which lenses did you use on those? Did you get any with VR? I am still stalking the D40, but I have liked pretty much all the outside sample pics I have seen from users. Any inside or low light shots you wanna share?

All three were taken with a Quataray 70-300 set on aperture prority mode, no filter. The first was F32 at ISO200 with a 10 second exposure, the second was F32 at ISO200 with a 1.1 second exposure time, and the last one was F40 at ISO200 with a 1.5 second exposure.
I haven't done any low light or inside pics yet. I'm still getting the feel for it. I plan on taking some more on Sunday at Tutto Italiano and then i'll work into a few still lifes.
very nice mash [thumbsup]
i've got the D50, i love it.
Great shots!! F32? Those pics look like a really wide aperture, not small. Just sayin'
Great piece of kit, that Nikon.
(personally biased towards Canon, but I can respect it! 8) )
D300 user here... Nikons are great. Canons are great too. Honestly they're both about the same, I went with the nikon because everyone I know shoots nikons and I could borrow lenses. ;D
If you can afford it, the 18-200 VR is a great lens. I've got shakey hands and the VR is worth every penny... and I don't have to take a tripod around with me.
Also, get the 50mm f1.8... 108 bucks on amazon.... really fast, sharp lens that, by the time you adjust for the DX sensor, acts like a 75mm lens which is great for portrats. The 50mm f1.4 is about three times as expensive, but I LOVE the 1.8.

Get a flickr account and join some groups. I've learned a lot posting pictures on there for critiques and helpful instruction.
i just picked up a D40 a few weeks ago. [thumbsup]
so far it's great. i have learned through playing with my friend's 18-200VR that i really need to just spend the money and buy one myself.
ohh and get an external drive. it's way to easy to shoot hundreds of pics at a time with that thing. (esp coming from my crappy p&s)
Congratulations, I've had my D80 since christmas. A truly wonderful toy! Nice pics also.
