yesterday while negotiating a bumpy and convoluted detour as i pulled back onto the original road i was attempting to follow and got on the gas i saw the car ahead of me swerve. knowing these things usually happen for a reason i followed suit and moved over.
there was a drawer in the road. not a normal drawer. the drawer off of an oven. a big oven at that. how do you not notice that falling off your truck?
since there was no traffic behind me i stopped and picked up the blockage and wrangled it on thte bike in my lap so icould put it on the side of the road to keep others from running into it. as i dropped it off a car came by and glared at me. i should have just left it there and let them hit it.
Right now there is a thread on some Oven Board titled: "Open letter to my biker friend on the side of the road". ;D
Good on 'ya for getting it out of the road. [thumbsup] On a smaller scale, when I'm riding my road bicycle, if I see nails or screws...they get picked up. No flats, please.

One time, i was riding passenger in a car on my way to Bush Gardens in florida. We left about 5am. Right before i went to sleep, i buckled up, and 5 seconds after i closed my eyes, i see a massive object outside the window we just passed (eyes were cracked opne a bit) and next you know it we hit something.
it was the front axel of a bmw at 90mph.

Good on you for pulling it off to the side of the road. If dude glared at your he/she obviously didn't process that riding with an oven drawer would be almost impossible for any distance.
About a month ago I was riding around getting ready to hit some twisties and was following a dump truck when the things huge driveshaft just fell off. I wasn't following close so I missed it easy but man you should have seen the look on the guys face when he realized what happened. Priceless.

A few years ago, I had just purchased a new car... and was driving it home... following a pickup truck.... a steel plate bounced out of the back end and launched itself at my car. The plate embedded itself in the engine block. Going through the radiator and the a/c unit. (Plus all the other hoses, wires, and grill in the way.) A cop pulled over to see why I was just sitting there on the side of the road... and while we were there... two cars got blow out flats from other crap spewed from the back of the pick up truck. I can't imagine how bad it could have been if I was riding at the time.
Last year I was driving home from work, following a pickup from a landscape company. As he went over a set of RR tracks, everything in the bed jumped into the air, and a wheelbarrow fell out, and bounced along the road, andembedded itself into the grill of my van. The driver hit his brakes, and I thought he was going to stop, then he sped up, and took off!
Stupid. He had the name and # of his business printed all over the truck, and he had the business name stencilled on the handle of the wheelbarrow. How he thought he was going to skip out on the accident, I'll never understand.

I whipped out my cell, and called him, and he actually answered. I told him to turn around and come back, or my next call was to the cops, and that an insurance claim beats a hit and run any day.
