I've been a season ticket holder for the last two years after getting hooked while in europe, aside from the relatively lacklustre standard of play... I LOVE THIS LEAGUE!
we had the 'allstar' game here a few weeks back, good fun. westham was kind enough to let them win.
all in all, good spectacle, good fans, not too rowdy, not too respectful. beer expensive of course, but that's life.
league is ten years in now, a new team in each of the next two years anyhow, and maybe up to 18 in the future. What do you think the chances are of this league making it in the long run? I used to watch NASL back in the day, seemed to have all the same positives, what's different now?
I'd like the womens league to come back. I was actually gearing up to try out after college but they shut it down. >:(
Go Crew!!!!
I'd like to see MLS make it, I think they need to encourage the kind of team spirit that they have in Europe, get people educated about the sport. Soccer/football is great, I think most americans just don't understand it, so they lose something.

There isn't scoring every 30 seconds like the NBA so our attention spans can't . . . oooooh look, something shiny!!

Long live ZOLO!!!
I don't know why people say the league hasn't made it. It is ten years old, on ESPN regularly (games and highlights), and attendance grows each year. Columbus actually built the first stadium specifically for soccer for their team the Crew. It might not be as popular as Football, Basketball, and Baseball but Soccer has definetely made it in the U.S.
the game and league are getting a lot more airtime than they have in the past. the requirements for a new team in the MLS are set so that it will give the team a couple of years before they run out of money and have to fold/move.
i think the game just took a while (and quite a few tiries) to take hold in mainstream america.
