as i started riding on my stock bike i realized how quiet it is compared to the ducs with aftermarket exhausts. i love the performance and power is more than i need as of now so i'm saving up for a nice zard or arrow system for maybe next season. but in the meantime, i'm reading that coring the stock pipes is a relatively easy and cheap way to get a nice deep grumbling sound without affecting performance one way or the other. and if this is all true it is definitely something i'd want to do. so is anyone capable of doing this in the ny/nj area??
I haven't done it before but I linked how to in the local bike shops thread above. but here is the direct link.

Just loose it altogther. thats 20lbs of weight of the side of your bike. louder than a core, and not too much performance lost. maybe a hp or 2 at most.
hey he man, looks like you did that with your s2r... i can't decide whether i like the non-conspicuous exhaust look, a la boomtubes or exbox, over the aggressive SSS pipes look.
did you chop your mufflers off yourself? if so, is it something you'd be willing to do for someone else for a charge? i know one of my buddy's buddy is a home mechanic that does a lot of his own mods and tinkering but not sure if he can core a muffler or chop it off like your bike
I'll chop your exhaust off your bike for 100 bucks, of course ill only take out a few bolts and do some wiggling ;D ;D

No, choping does not equate to bolts and wiggling. I want you to CHOP IT OFF. and i want you to chop it of right where my swingarm gets in the way. your working for you $100 buddy. ;D
Corpthug, you can just take them of and see how you like it. I use to love it, its VERY LOUD. but lately ive been wanting a deeper tone thats not so loud, that i cnat talk to my passenger. I have plans to chop my pipes where the meet the udder and weld on prebent exahust tubes for home made boom tubes.

If you cut the udder out of the equation then you are going to have to weld those pipes to the headers. The way the 800 is set up there are two hangers that hold the udder to the bike and keep enough pressure to seal that connection to the headers, i'm guessing the same on the 1000. If you weld them up and if you ever want to take the headers off you're probably going to have to cut those welds. You might be able to fab up another bracket/hanger to hold all this and not weld but its going to be a pita. What im trying to say is that if you cut where your saying those pipes are just going to fall off. I'm interested to see what you come up with because I like boom tubes too.
Its not the same on the S2R 1k. Not exactly.
I was just busting your balls about the swingarm cutting thing. cause of your exact reason, i would never be able to take it off. lol.
The S2R1k bladder is held on by a bracket on the vert cylinder. and is a direct connection to the horizontal cylinder. I am going to cut the horizontal pipe. and use a 45 degree ( the stock S pipes have a 40degree turn thats actualy perfect) and then i will purchase a 90 degree. I cannt ofind metric, so it will have to be SAE. My plan is to use a 1 5/8 inch which is 41.3 mm. With a MAPP torch on the SAE end, i should be able to convince the piece to go in, and ill just weld springs to hold it tight. If not, then its either a pipe expander, or weld.
For the vertical cylinder, im just going to remove the bracket and slip out the udder. For that section, i am going to use 1 90 degree piece. If that leads to the exahust being to close to my foot (which i think it will) i have to sit and re think. I ight be able to get away with using my other 2 pipe (the 40 degree bend) and having the vert outlet be next to the wheel, instead of the horizontal.
If that makes any sense. Lastly, ill probably end up flaring the end to some crazy shape (ever seen the Chevy logo shaped exahust on camaros? lol) that makes me smile and spray paint it black. But before i do this, i still have to find a fueling solution since ill in all likelyness run lean.
