Title: Vista: SP1
Post by: herm on August 06, 2008, 08:16:19 PM
ok, first things first.
this is not about mac vs. windows.
comparing the two is completely irrelevant, since i am not talking about a mac OS.

now, who has downloaded windows vista SP1?
thoughts?

Have it on a work drone.  It works pretty much the same, apparently there were a bunch of security fixes - who knows.  Although, for the filesize that I had to d/l, I woulda thought there was more to it than bug fixes, either that or it was even buggier than I thought!  So, d/l for the security fixes, but don't expect your comp to perk up when you're done.

I have noticed zero difference* on my home machine since I installed SP1.

I suppose it's more secure, but I run a good firewall with decent anti-virus and I use firefox for browsing.

* It still sucks. I should have gotten a copy of XP when I built this PC. But nooooo, I had to "upgrade" to Vista so I could have two monitors...

Why do I need a firewall?

it's not just security, it fixed a few annoying performance issues for me and brought me off the ledge of reverting to XP.  btw- have you set any video to act as your desktop background?  I soooo dig that.  Just wish it did audio for the video too.

The XP Drivers didn't support two monitors of different resolutions. The Vista ones did.

Plus I'm a Microsoft Alumni, so a copy of Vista only costs me about $20 from the company store.

But once you figure in your costs for a therapist and booze, MS ends up owing you.

it's true... our souls are checked into Product Studio and we're never given admin rights to retrieve them for ourselves.  We are given queries so that we can search for and triage our digital souls amongst all the others but with read-only access, no edit priveleges.

I tried to escape and was re-captured, re-tagged, and sent to a pen not far from where I was when I dug my way out the first time.

On the plus side I can get really cool squishy balls, and branded light up pens at the Company Store at any time.   [cheeky]
