Title: Pilot power with huge cyst in the middle of the tread pattern! Post by: ghostface on August 08, 2008, 03:03:59 PM i just noticed it a few minutes ago on my monster. Apart from the front end commuter chicken strip, there's a 2 cyst like boils on the tire right down the center. Don't have a camera but I'll take a pic when I get home. WTF? :P

That may have been for something else like separating. Title: Re: Pilot power with huge cyst in the middle of the tread pattern! Post by: Speeddog on August 09, 2008, 08:12:18 AM A pic would be good.
How old is the tire, on which Monster? Title: Re: Pilot power with huge cyst in the middle of the tread pattern! Post by: squidwood on August 09, 2008, 06:53:41 PM red dog is right, some time ago there were some recalls. If you go to either the Michelin site or your local reputable tire dealer they will let you know which tires made in which country and some other info.I believe these were tires that were made in Spain , but I may be wrong. You should check.
As for any tire imperfections do not ride your bike until you have taken care of them. Better safe than sorry. Its not worth having an accident because a $150 .00 tire went tits up on you. Post by: scott_araujo on August 10, 2008, 07:19:01 AM Whether that tire falls into a recall or not, replace it ASAP. Don't ride on it. It sounds like the layers of rubber are separating and that could lead to a sudden catastrophic failure.

Title: Re: Pilot power with huge cyst in the middle of the tread pattern! Post by: erik822 on August 14, 2008, 06:15:55 AM A cyst or bubble on the outside of the tire is a defect, pure and simple.
Belts (plies) on the tires sometimes separate and cause a "bubble" to appear in the tread or on the side wall. They are caused by improper adhesion within the tire. Return the tire. Don't ride on it. Whether it's part of a recall or not, whomever sold the tire should be willing to take it back and return it to the manufacturer (unless the tire is past its usable tread life). You will be hard pressed to find a tire company that won't take back a tire like that. For them, the alternative is a very, very expensive lawsuit.
