Post by: morganf on August 08, 2008, 07:43:28 PM Hey brother, you go ahead and bring those arrows on over and we'll chop em down. you'll be happy you did!
I've chopped up several 'good' cans in the past and it's no sweat! Piece o' cake! You think they're perfectly good Arrows now, you just wait til you hack a few inches off of em! lemme know when you're ready ;) Morgan Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: SaltLick on August 09, 2008, 06:23:08 AM Ive looked around on Ebay, seems a new set of the pipes i have now on Ebay run around $850 for a pair of slip ons....
why so much money? I dont know much about mufflers... Would it be stupid to take these off, sell them, buy some cheap stock ones and cut them down? Would the bike then run like shit? Any advice anyone? Morgan temps me with his idea, but if i could sell these even for $300 and get the stock ones and cut the stock ones down the money sure could get me some more MC stuff. I could care less if it has a brand name on the side of the pipes i would care though if the bike ran like shit once i was done. Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: Mother on August 09, 2008, 06:29:00 AM on the off chance that the pipes were the same size
I'd cut down the arrows and then use the end caps off a stock set of monster (remus) pipes Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: desmosome on August 09, 2008, 08:27:46 AM Quiet pipes have their advantages....
Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: duc_fan on August 09, 2008, 11:17:18 AM Chopped stock pipes won't flow as well as a set of properly designed aftermarket pipes (like your Arrows).
For those suggesting "chopping the Arrows"... the problem is not the length. The problem is the pipe diameter, specifically the outlet diameter. If you wanted to do it right without paying for new pipes... remove endcaps from Arrows, cut out the tailpipe, make the hole larger, and weld in a new tailpipe. If the perf'd core of the mufflers is the same size as that skinny outlet, disassemble the rest of the cans, remove said core, install larger perf'd core, and repack the mufflers. You do NOT want drastic changes in pipe diameter between the headpipe and the rearmost outlet. Radical changes in pipe diameter lead to ugly flow properties (i.e. drag... or backpressure). It's a helluva lot of work, but that's how to do it correctly without paying for new cans. Or... you can do it the cheap and easy way by just hacking it all to bits. Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: NEIKOS on August 09, 2008, 01:07:17 PM According to MotoCorsa and other sources when I did mine you can either open your airbox or "aftermarket" cans and not need to get your bike gassed or get a PCIII. If you do BOTH then the changes are drastic enough where the stock ECU can't make the adjustments.
EDR actually told me my pipes have great flow - perhaps too much. But that's also likely because I have the pods vs he airbox mounted on it. There's lots of sucking air up front and she loose in the back so . . . The PCIII is earning it's keep. ;) Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: morganf on August 09, 2008, 01:41:49 PM My suggestion for chopping the Arrows was simply a low buck solution to get more noise out of the bike using existing parts. Not to optimize performance or get the best flow.
Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: SaltLick on August 10, 2008, 03:32:20 PM Hey would these work? Already cored:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/mcy/783032095.html My bike is a 750 monster...is that the same as a 748? looks like i could get these, keep my current pipes in case they dont work out. Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: Tailgunner on August 10, 2008, 06:44:30 PM Stock Monster cans should be everywhere and cheap. They were when I was screwing around and cored a set. I think I even gave some away.
The cans you have on now are nice. They are not cheap either so don't let 'em go for a stock pair & a sandwich. Buy a gay pair of stockers and we'll chop them up so you can have loud fun. Ultimately I think a nice set of carbon fiber Arrows, Termi's, or even Remus would be the nuts. Post what you've got and offer a trade for CF. CF drops the best decibels, the best I've heard. And thats Ducati man, dig it Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: duc_fan on August 10, 2008, 10:18:04 PM Billy makes a good point... metallic canisters tend to pass through more of the highs... CF deadens the high frequency sounds, resulting in a sound that's more basso magnifico. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: SaltLick on August 11, 2008, 05:35:57 AM I cant seem to find a pair of stock exhaust. Not on ebay, not on craigslist, not on the monster board.....
I would gladly trade my pipes for some CF ones. Where should i post that i have them for trade....i dont think id trust shipping them to someone in hopes of getting thiers...it would have to be a local trade, they bring thiers i bring mine sort of thing. Ill post it and see what happens. Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: canoncrazy on August 11, 2008, 07:24:11 AM yeah, my buddy has a s2r 1k, with the need to upgrade. what do you want for your pipes? do you have an ecm on your bike with your arrow?

If i have any issues i can then revert back to my pipes. Either that or trade for some good pipes. Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: SaltLick on August 11, 2008, 10:21:02 PM Will stock pipes off a 916 work on my monster? someone emailed me saying they had a set of stock pipes off a 916....how much should i offer him? Or anyone that emails me with stock pipes?
Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: scott_araujo on August 12, 2008, 04:49:28 AM 916 & 748 pipes come up under the seat. I don't think they'll work for a Monster. Keep your eyes peeled on Ebay. Lefts and rights are always available, matched sets come up every once in a bit.
Scott Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: SaltLick on August 12, 2008, 05:13:14 AM Hey some guy wants to trade his CF remus pipes for mine. Heres a pic of them....what do you guys think? Are they worth it?
(http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t117/salt_lick/pipes1.jpg) (http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t117/salt_lick/pipes2.jpg) He had his bike rejetted for those pipes, and was wondering if he would have to have his bike adjusted again once my pipes went on his bike. Are my pipes less restrictive than the remus, or about the same? I dont know. any answers? Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: duc_fan on August 12, 2008, 03:44:58 PM Well... my 900 is running Ducati Performance-branded CF pipes made by Remus. I like the sound, from what I can hear. Has a nice "whump" to it, without being high and "blatty". But of course, I've never followed me, so I don't really know what the flyby sounds like. I just know I tend to like the deeper, mellower sound of CF mufflers, because the material deadens some of the high frequencies.
As far as the jetting goes, I have no idea. One set of aftermarket pipes to another... hard to say. If it was me, and I did the swap, I'd definitely go take it someplace like EDR and have the exhaust gases checked while on a dyno. As far as "worth" goes... here's a list of current prices on both types... http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/shop/catalog/ducati/exhaust.html Yours are Ti, Stainless, or Aluminum? Makes a difference in the price, but if they're Ti, looks like the new retail price for Ti Arrows is the same as the CF Remus lo-mounts. At that point, I'd check to see that they were in comparable condition (and that his CF isn't faded). If so, then I'd say go for it. Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: desmosome on August 12, 2008, 03:52:56 PM I went with non-CF.
Can run them hotter and they stand up to crashing better. (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a264/jonfay/DSCN2639.jpg) Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: Bendy on August 12, 2008, 04:52:43 PM Nor are they subject to fading from sun exposure. I don't care what anybody says--there are no special formulae or amount of buffing or super wax or any of that horseshit that makes an old set of carbon cans look new. Especially when yours in particular have hangers that haven't always been in the same place, and you have several "custom" dark-streaks of new-looking CF down the side of your mostly light grey can. >:(
Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: SaltLick on August 12, 2008, 05:27:27 PM hey theres some guy emailed me and said he has a set of stock remus pipes off his monster he will sell me for $50, they also fit a 900SS he says.
What the hell are stock remus mufflers? He is responding to a craigslist ad i put up for stock ducati monster pipes. He emailed me saying he had a set, it wasnt until after a few emails and he gives me his number and says they are stock remus pipes..... anyone heard of these? Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: desmosome on August 12, 2008, 05:29:50 PM the stock pipes are made by remus

Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: duc_fan on August 12, 2008, 08:05:53 PM Umm, if that's the guy trying to sell a set of stockers off a roughly year 2000 900SS, those won't fit. Chuck and I checked... SS pipes and Monster pipes are two different animals. The muffler and head pipe are at different angles with respect to one another.
He's either got SS pipes or Monster pipes. The only way he's got "both" is if he has two sets: one off a Monster, and one off an SS. If it's the same guy, his ad for the SS pipes is here: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/mcy/784231547.html --------------- The comments about fading CF are true... you can't really restore them once they've faded, unless you just wanna paint over the CF (which I suppose you could do). And you don't wanna buy CF cans if they're going to sit out in the sun all day. That's why I stopped commuting on my SS a month or so ago. I think it was adversely affecting the CF cans. I just prefer the sound CF mufflers make, and I have the luxury of storing the SS in a garage and commuting in another vehicle. Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: SaltLick on August 12, 2008, 08:47:46 PM No its a different guy, I asked him straight up if its off a monster, he said yes, but that it will fit a 900SS as well.....hmm....dammit now what do i do.....how can i tell by looking at them if they would fit my bike or not?
Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: krolik on August 12, 2008, 09:02:51 PM $50 ain't a bad prie for a set of stock cans, especially if they aren't scratched up. If they don't fit, sell them on eBay.
Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: SaltLick on August 12, 2008, 09:42:17 PM he just replied back and said they came off a monster 900, good enough for me im getting um.

You can check the part number. On the stockers, it's stamped/etched right into the canister along with all that federal emissions blah-de-blah. Can't recall the exhaust PNs for the Monsters off the top o' my head, but I'm sure someone around here knows. Title: Re: Any you locals have a set of stock monster pipes for sale? Post by: SaltLick on August 14, 2008, 05:01:46 AM well i bought them last night. They guy just moved here from LA and had a few ducatis in his driveway, one was from the 80's really strange looking. he has a Delorian too. Anyways a good guy i told him to come join us here.
