Title: How to fix 696 mirrors (without buying aftermarket) Post by: aguacate on August 10, 2008, 06:08:16 PM Srlsy who designed these things? Or I suppose I should say for whom? I'm not even a tall person at around 5'5" and the highest I can point the mirrors is at the exhaust when I am in riding position.
As for the mirrors themselves I like them and i think stylewise they are a great improvement over the previous monsters. No problem with vibration and they seem to provide a big enough view, so I am not really looking for a replacement, just how do I point them higher? I don't want to roll the controls down any, either. 1st thought: install some sort of angled shim at the point where the mirrors screw on. I prototyped this idea by breaking off a small piece of paper clip and wedging it in between the mirror base and the mirror mount, my side of the bike. This worked great for the right mirror, but I couldn't quite get it positioned right for the left mirror. Too inconsistent. Anyone know if the sell angled washers? I'm gonna try the same. I've moved them forward back... in out but not rolled em yet. Right now i have a good compromise and can see behind with just a quick tuck of my right elbow.

It amazed me the difference... because i had been tweaking the glass as far as it would go... then rolling the mount forward just a few degrees made a much bigger difference than swinging the arms forward, or tilting the glass up. It doesn't roll much, but it doesn't need to. Didn't noticeably affect the position of the controls either.
