HONG KONG (AFP) - US swim legend Mark Spitz won't be on hand in Beijing if Michael Phelps breaks his record of seven gold medals at a single Olympicsâ€"because, he says, no one bothered to invite him.
Spitz said the International Olympic Committee, a US television network or FINAâ€"the international body that governs world swimmingâ€"should have brought him to the Games this year, with Phelps making a go at his record.
"I never got invited. You don't go to the Olympics just to say, I am going to go. Especially because of who I am," Spitz told AFP in Hong Kong.

ha! i didn't mean to quote myself in that post.
That guy is a whiney little pregnant dog. He is a has been and probably can't afford the plane ticket that's why he needed someone to invite him. What would he do if he was there?

They would show him on TV. That's all he wants. To be back in the public eye..I'm sure.
Maybe get a picture of himself with Phelps. All the while thinking..
I'm still better than you Michael Phelps. [roll]
[cheeky]
He has already made it back into the public eye but in a less than spectacular way. He has been portrayed as a whiney little girl that won some medals 30 years ago. I would hate to meet this bag of douch in person because I would probably drown in his oversized ego.

i doubt that's the case, given his business interests and what he gets paid as a public speaker.
plus, he's already in effin hong kong!

I think not.

then after the violinist is done playing he should kick him in the nuts and tell him to STFU.
Weak...
Who here knows how these sort of things really work?
For all the times you've seen a 'classy pass the torch' display from the past record holder to the new - do you think they just showed up on their own to sit in the stands?
Who knows, maybe he'll be there in the end to deliver the 7th and 8th medals - I'd still like to see it - and while certainly no personal friend of mine - I like to think that Phelps would be honored by Spitz involvement in the ceremony.
Sorry I can't run with the tide on this one boys and girls. I'm still a bit wide-eyed about Olympians and very jaded about reporters of the 'truth'.
Night.
