On a scary note, The LAPD does have a couple of patrol cars with cameras mounted on the roofs- automatic license plate readers which reads the plate and automatically queries DMV and warrant systems searching for stolen vehicles and warrant hits. The damn thing reads something like 1000 plates a shift.(http://www.wired.com/images/slideshow/2008/01/spawar/01_uav.jpg) (from here (http://www.wired.com/politics/security/multimedia/2008/01/gallery_spawar)) :leo: big Theres also " supposedly" a similar vehicle with a facial recognition system on board- but I havent seen it |
