ahem . . .

Pawnbroker: Burnt my fingers, man.
Louis Winthorpe III: I beg your pardon?
Pawnbroker: Man, that watch is so hot, it's smokin'.
Louis Winthorpe III: Hot? Do you mean to imply stolen?
Pawnbroker: I'll give you 50 bucks for it.
Louis Winthorpe III: Fifty bucks? No, no, no. This is a Rouchefoucauld. The thinnest water-resistant watch in the world. Singularly unique, sculptured in design, hand-crafted in Switzerland, and water resistant to three atmospheres. This is *the* sports watch of the '80s. Six thousand, nine hundred and fifty five dollars retail!
Pawnbroker: You got a receipt?
Louis Winthorpe III: Look, it tells time simultaneously in Monte Carlo, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Rome, and Gstaad.
Pawnbroker: In Philadelphia, it's worth 50 bucks.
Louis Winthorpe III: Just give me the money.
Louis Winthorpe III: [looking in display case] How much for the gun?

Maybe the 8k ring wasn't available?

looks like a pretty "blah" watch to me.  looks-wise i wouldn't pay more than 40 or 50 bucks for it.

now, if you want a cool watch, check this out instead:  http://www.tokyoflash.com/en/

it mostly upsets me because i'm playing check roulette this pay period and 9K would pay off all my debt and leave me money to go on vacation with.

i don't understand why or how people justify paying that much for something. i don't care what it's made out of or how snazzy it looks, it won't keep time any better than a $20 watch. and if the $20 watch breaks, gets stolen, scratched, or otherwise is rendered less than stellar...it's only another $20. if you go throuhg 1 watch a year it would take 450 years to match the price.

hell, you can buy a nice watch for $100. if you go through 1 watch a year it will be 90 years before you match the cost. that's longer than most people actually wear a watch for.

call me cheap, frugal, poor, or an asshole. i just don't understand it. i dont' see how a watch can outperform all the other watches to make ti worth that money.

/i have the same issue/arguement with people that spend tons of money on clothing.

It's not the timepiece you're buying. It's the status. It's a subtle, yet prominent way of saying "I am better than you".

Thats why he is selling it for only 7k... The BJ is 2k extra -- and I reckon he's just not into that.

(And on another note... I find it funny some people are willing to say that 9k is too much, but a lot of us have spent 13, 14, and 15 thousand on a motorcycle which we could of gotten on for half as much ... ... ...)

What kind of beer do you drink?  Does it get you drunk any faster than Maddog 20/20?  It's a matter os taste, as most things in life are.

See, this argument of yours is just as elitist as the guy who buys the 9k watch.  You're trying to show your superiority by telling us how much status doesn't matter to you, how you're above that.  If you weren't, you wouldn't have replied to this thread in such a manner.  So, really, you and the guy who bought this watch are trying to accomplish the same thing, he just obviously has a better job.

FTR, I don't care for the watch either, but I certainly don't begrudge people spending their money however they please.

actually, i generally don't spend more than $20 on a case of beer. the beer i buy is because i enjoy not having the shits after i drink it. if i spend more i am splurging and it falls into almost the same thought process.

*i'm not saying i'm superior and i will prove it by disproving all your theries on how superior i am  [laugh] [cheeky]*
