Title: Retired Pastor Finally Has A Beer
Post by: triangleforge on August 12, 2008, 02:36:34 PM
From LarkNews.com:

After 50 years in pulpit, retired pastor finally has a beer
   [drink]

WATERVILLE, Maine â€" After stepping down from the pastorate last month after fifty years in ministry, Albert Finley did something no one expected: he had his first beer.

"I was curious what it actually tasted like, after all these years of preaching against it," he says.

The results?

"What a marvelous drink," he says. "It tastes much better than it smells."

And I gotta hand it to him -- Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a better choice for a first beer than most of us made...  [clap]

No doubt. If I had had one of those right off the bat I could/would have skipped years of crappy brew.

Man, Good For Him.  I know exactly how the Uber conservative Christians are. Now I will take up for them when called upon but in the case of the pastor, at least he was not a hypocrite.  He walked his talk while/when he did the talking.

I "understand" how the pastor feels about beer.  I think he personally likes the taste of beer.  If beer was not alcoholic yet had the same flavor, I would drink it like tea.
Going out on a limb here but I dont enjoy being wasted.  1 or 2 drinks to make me feel a little lighter is all good but not spewing vomit everywhere. Maybe the pastor feels the same way.

I think when "we" started drinking beer, it was for the effect. If I was already mature and wated something I could sit there and savor, it wouldn't have been OE or Mickey's...

Pussy.

Just kidding. The drink umtil you puke thing was something I got over around junior year of college and wish I would have two years earlier. But I still like the drunk feeling. A lot. A glass of wine or two with dinner is nice. But I usually like to follow that up with 3-4 more. I get mellow and happy when drunk. I like it. Pot on the other hand doesn't do a damn thing for me. Never has. But for me 4-6 drinks =  :)

Good on the pastor man. Its a damn shame he had to preach against alcohol though. Booze ain't the problem, stupid people with the inability to control themselves are the problem. I guess its the same "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument. Don't preach against the booze, pray that people who can't control themselves can find control again (be that through abstaining or moderation).

That's what everyone tells me. But last time I smoked it was serious medical grade NorCal grown good shit given to me by a rich dude that would have nothing less. I smoked away. It is possible I'm not smoking it right, I've only smoked a handful of times. Is it more complicated than: light up, suck on the bong, inhale, hold until your eyes water, exhale?

Everytime I've smoked I've always thought, Meh, I'll have another beer.

I know a pale ale would have knocked me on my ass if it was the first beer I had.
