Not at all. I had no idea untill I read about it.
In a nutshell there are over 16,000 points on Earth where major lines of latitude and longitude intersect. Basically you go find them. Some could be on the side of the road, atop of a mountain etc. I believe if you find one that hasn't been discovered, you claim it (?). Obviously alot of them are in the middle of the Ocean, so unless you have a ship your outta luck.  ;D

Is it sort of like naming a star after someone, or adopting an armadillo?

You can sit on your ass and name a star, and you only need a handfull of grubworms to catch an armadillo.

Right, but how do you "claim" a confluence?  Can you put an RV on it and spend your summers there, or what?

Sounds like the Chess Club for outdoorsy-type dudes.  No offense, I'm just saying.

Kinda like geocaching without the geocache. Still I can see the appeal, mainly because it would take you to random spots that you'd otherwise have no reason to visit, unlike a geocache in a spot that had to appeal to at least one person out there.

Props to whoever gets this one (and doesn't get shot trying to get onto the sub base...)

I like hiking and camping ultra-light, but searching for virtual intersecting lines doesn't appeal.  Even geocaching seems weird to me, go to the middle of nowhere to find someones soda can or a tree stump?  :P

I'll stick to hiking to a lake in the middle of nowhere.
