Title: How to mount low exhaust with aftermarket rearsets?
Post by: KEH on August 15, 2008, 03:56:25 PM
Ok, so sometimes I don't think things through! I just bought a set of an aftermarket rearsets. I go to the garage to install them and realize I have a problem. Where do I mount my exhaust?

I've been looking at pics of modded monsters on the net and saw a few with rearsets and low mount exhaust like mine. Most seem to have custom machined struts attaching the exhaust to the frame.  Some rearsets are designed with low mount exhaust in mind, which are elongated to allow for a mounting point. Mine are not like these.

Does someone make a kit or something I can buy to facilitate this? Otherwise, I'll be rigging something up, which I'd like to avoid.

I have a '99 M750 and here are the rearsets I have: http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=9357.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=9357.0)

Awesome! Thanks. That looks like the ticket.

Just one more quick question. Did you reinstall the brake light sensor or did you ditch it? My rearsets have no provision for it and I don't really see a good way to install it.

Thanks.

Easiest answer is a hydraulic switch:

I do have a hydraulic switch some where in my garage, however never got around to install it, I don't have operation of the brake light with my rear brake, it is not that important to me, I usually use the front brake the most any way.
The turn knuckles were very cheep at Home Depot.

You guys are the best! Someone always has an answer to every problem. Thanks again.

I got everything installed nicely. I used turnbuckles from Home Depot, like Juan. I may switch them to heim joints and aluminum linkage in the future to match the Ducati shift linkage.

The rearsets look pretty cool but not as clean as I'd hoped for, with the big turnbuckles and all the rear brake equipment. An unexpected benefit is that the bike shifts better. It feels more solid, less slop. I used to have issues getting into neutral at a stop and with the 1-2 shift. All that is gone!
