Title: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: Murdered Monster on August 16, 2008, 05:50:35 AM I’m working with what I have so far. Not a lot of accessories for this bike yet, but I think it has a lot of potential. It just needs some time. I'd really like to hear any suggestions. Thanks! :)

I'd say I like it better than I did the first time I saw it in the showroom. It still feels like too much of a departure from the original but it's growing on me.

Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: Murdered Monster on August 16, 2008, 01:12:10 PM Thanks for the open minded comments. I've never owned a monster before and I can understand why people that own the original style want to keep it up on a pedestal. It's a beautiful bike. But I think with time the new body style will have it's own identity. :)
Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: A.duc.H.duc. on August 16, 2008, 01:19:35 PM I like just about everything about the 696 except the swingarm. So what're you going to do about that?
Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: Murdered Monster on August 16, 2008, 01:26:12 PM I'm not sure what I can do to it. What would you suggest?
Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: eltristo on August 16, 2008, 02:20:14 PM I would still like to see the headlight about an inch farther out. And have it fit a 6'2" body better.
Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: kopfjäger on August 16, 2008, 02:27:35 PM Lookin good. [thumbsup] Have you seen the Quat D CF highmount pipes?
Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: Murdered Monster on August 16, 2008, 02:54:47 PM Lookin good. [thumbsup] Have you seen the Quat D CF highmount pipes? Thanks! Yes, I have seen them. They sound good, but I think the ex-box would clear out the space between the tire and seat and would give the 696 a hole different look. Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: kopfjäger on August 16, 2008, 03:05:41 PM I hear ya. If you get a chance pull the cans off to give yourself an idea how it might look.
Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: xskiervh on August 16, 2008, 07:08:09 PM I thought of the same exact thing when i saw this bike...it has a ton of potential. I have trouble telling people that sometimes though...meaning there are definitly some parts that dont exactly make the bike look all the great, and when i tell people that, they start to wonder why i bought it in the first place. But anyways, this is my first bike. Ive been around bikes forever and i think i have a keen eye for what works and what doesnt work for bikes....so i look foward to making mine stand out from the rest, in a good way.
Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: bryant8 on August 16, 2008, 07:33:34 PM Your 696 looks great! I'd leave the front hugger on though. Since you're going for a blacked out look, anodizing the forks would be sweet.
I'm not sure what else you can do to it, the model itself is still in the teething stages. I can't wait to see what people dream up for the new platform [thumbsup] Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: duc996 on August 17, 2008, 02:29:54 AM It has good potential, have you thought about chopping the tail to make it look meaner a bit more?Nice ride BTW. [thumbsup]

I can't wait to see what people dream up for the new platform [thumbsup] I actually did put the front fender back on today. It does look better. I'd like to make the forks black too, but I've never attempted to take them off of any other bike before so I don't really know how in depth it is. Is there anything I can do to change the color w/o removing them? Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: Murdered Monster on August 17, 2008, 03:43:18 AM It has good potential, have you thought about chopping the tail to make it look meaner a bit more?Nice ride BTW. I'm really not sure if there's anything you can do about the swinger besides replacing it with a custom one. Maybe if the 696 style sticks around Norm will end up making some trellis swingarms for them. Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: Xiphias on August 17, 2008, 06:13:17 AM Very nice. I like the way the 696 looks...I'm in the minority. So what're you going to do about that? I think someone shold cut a hole out where the indents are in the swingarm to mach teh rearsets. It would take some fabrication skills but I think it needs it. Look at the CBR similar to that swingarm. Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: kopfjäger on August 17, 2008, 03:55:03 PM Or the Desmosedici. ;D

Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: Murdered Monster on August 19, 2008, 11:00:59 AM I've placed an order on the comp werkes tail kit. I'm hoping in will be here by the end of this week. I'm going to paint it black before I install it. I'm also getting my rearsets and grey headlight bracket powdercoated flat black to match the rest of the bike. I should have those back by Friday, I hope. I live in Florida and can't ride this week anyway due to the tropical storm. [bang] I'll be putting everything back together and posting pictures by the middle of next week. Get your popcorn ready. Title: Re: **The 696 can hang, just give it some time**UPDATED PICS!!! Post by: Murdered Monster on August 25, 2008, 05:31:06 AM I've updated the ORIGINAL POST WITH NEW PICTURES after getting my rearsets and headlight bracket powdercoated black and installing the tail kit. I'm not sure which mirrors I'm going with yet and I'd like to replace the cans with some type of under mounted exhaust. Nothing like that is available yet. If I go with the termis I'm going to have my pipes ceramic coated black. I'm also thinking of wrapping my forks with a matte black vinyl film. What do you guys think?

Title: Re: **The 696 can hang, just give it some time**UPDATED PICS!!! Post by: Murdered Monster on August 25, 2008, 07:05:20 AM For the rearsets and headlight bracket it was $100. The ceramic coated exhaust guards were $75. The guy that does the work is the same guy that does Billy Lane's stuff. Precision Powdercoating in Melbourne Florida. He does good work.

Title: Re: **The 696 can hang, just give it some time**UPDATED PICS!!! Post by: Raux on August 25, 2008, 03:17:19 PM LOVE the headlight piece.
but surprisingly, not so sure about the rearset. didnt' realize how grey the swingarm was until next to the black rearset. maybe on my white bike it would allow the white to pop more. I like how all your pieces are being subdued with black. would you think black lanesplitters would good with your bike? Title: Re: **The 696 can hang, just give it some time**UPDATED PICS!!! Post by: Murdered Monster on August 25, 2008, 03:21:42 PM Yeah, when it's sitting directly in the sun light the rearsets do look like a different shade of black than the swingarm. But I still think it looks better then the grey. I think I'm going to end up getting the CGR mirrors. I just want to look around a little. Thanks for the input. ;D
Title: Re: The 696 can hang, just give it some time Post by: DRKWNG on August 26, 2008, 07:34:25 AM Maybe I shouldn't wear my 5" studded white leatherette platfroms when I ride, but I just love them so much! I have been thinking about a single side exhaust. kinda like they did with that offroad monster. http://www.terramostro.com/gallery.cfm you could simply cut the exhaust at the crossover and then run a single exhaust Title: Re: **The 696 can hang, just give it some time**UPDATED PICS!!! Black vinyl film made by LG. I got the idea from another post on here. It's like a hugh sticker that you have to stretch on the forks while keeping the wrinkles and bubbles out of it.
