Title: Ride Pics!
Post by: the_Journeyman on August 16, 2008, 06:35:49 PM
Took a nice 150 mile ride today.  Saw lots of good riding, some a bit more challenging, but all was well.  Here's the pics for you to enjoy!

Need a little sunshine in your day?  Only sunflower farm I've come across in my riding thus far.  on NC212 near the NC/TN line

Looking back, about a mile past the last pic.  Gotta love these mountain gap roads here in Appalachian mountains, still on NC212

Good thing Molly didn't need any friendly service.  Looked as if an attendant hadn't been here for quite some time.

The 'new' part of I-26 that connects the Bristol/Johnson City area of TN with the Asheville, NC area.  This is just a start of the engineering it took to make this road.  Taken from NC81/US19W just south of the NC/TN line

Picked up NC197 in Burnsville, NC.  Interesting road, but had one rather unusual feature.  This section had 1st-gear turns between these 5 straight sections.  Not sure what NC-DOT was thinking when they laid this road out, but it's a fun section to run.

Another shot of the same featuring Molly

Here's the Yahoo! Maps look at it.  it is actually spaced much closer than it appears on here.  It's nowhere near steep enough to require the hairpins.  The road could have easily gone straight up this section.  No wonder trucks are discouraged from using this route  [laugh]

One of the more challenging sections.  There was about 5 miles of this before I found pavement again.  Not bad though, no problems, probably made me more comfortable with wiggles associated with rocks and gravel in the road  [laugh]

Hope you enjoyed!

Very nice!  That's the sort of ride you want video on to get you through those long, rainy winters.
