Title: Business Trips...
Post by: wbeck257 on August 17, 2008, 07:14:33 PM
Okay -- I'm sure there are some business trip type regulars here...

I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere GA (which isn't much differnt from the middle of nowhere GA I live, just none of my friends out here) until Thursday for a training class. What do yall do to pass the time when your not doing work?

La Quinta, spanish for bored as make the beast with two backs.. .. ..

When I was out there I rented a MTB.

I also went to Taco Mac.

Many times. ;D

I don't travel for work but my wife does. So when she's gone I just pass the time with hookers and blow my bible and volunteering at the soup kitchen.

Here's what I do with my (very limited) spare time on business trips:
- bicycle rides (used to rent, now I have a folding bike I bring with me)
- go for jogs
- go for long walks
- other outdoor activities (once rented a motorbike, once a canoe, etc.)
- meet up with local friends
- see if there are any board members nearby to meet up with
- catch up on my reading - go to a cafe or restaurant and hang out with a book

usually take a camera and do a little exploring in the area.

or

get drunk and hang out in the pool.

luckily, it seems like 75% of my travel is with other people from work, so I usually have someone else to be bored with me.

Yeah, that was in Stockholm, I decided to paddle around the islands.

Although I should have gone for a kayak (they were much more expensive).

Canoeing by yourself might be good in calm waters, but everytime a power boat went by, it twirled me around.  Made it very difficult to make any progress.

Thats much better than hanging out in a bar [thumbsup]

I used to ride around on the JR line when I went to Tokyo...

I guess that wont help much for GA.

So, my laptop broke last night.
4 hours of fixing it gave me something to do tonight.
That and the trashcan full of beer -- well, it was full.

I'm in Conyers, GA right now -- about 30 miles East of Atlanta.
It is a 'not so nice' part of town. Otherwise I would of brought my bicycle.
That pisses me off on two levels. One, I have to stay here. Two, I'm make the beast with two backsing up my exercise regiment of 25+ miles a day.
There is a gym in the here -- I'm going to check it out tomorrow...

Or bury my head into my training book -- because holy make the beast with two backs...
I've basically got schooled in the 1,000's of ways I can kill myself in a substation today.
I thought I knew most of them -- but apparently there is a lot more shit...
