It may not be metric time but it sure did confuse me. My father-in-law was an ex-merchant marine and he had an old ship's bell clock on the wall. At 4:00 pm it would chime 8 times. Then at 4:30 it would chime twice. I'd wait around to see what it would do at 5:00 pm and it would chime twice! ???
I never did figure it out until I found out what a ship's bell clock was all about. :-[

Those 24hr clocks are cool, I remember seeing those when my dad was in the Marines, he would always say 1700 for 5 o'clock and stuff, he also used to say head, hatch, deck, bulkhead, passage, and he was a pilot.
Yup, I still say all of those things.
