From Wikipedia:

Symptoms of Type A Behavior[2]

   1. An intrinsic insecurity or insufficient level of self-esteem, which is considered to be the root cause of the syndrome. This is believed to be covert and therefore less observable.
   2. Time urgency and impatience, which causes irritation and exasperation.
   3. Free floating hostility, which can be triggered by even minor incidents.

I hit on all three so I guess I'm a Type A.

I am the exact opposite, so I guess that makes me B..

but B comes second, which means it can't be as good as A.  I got to figure out how to be an A and now, this new news infuriates me! [bang] [bang]
ahh not really...

Universal indifference is a wonderful thing.

Unless I am in traffic, then I am a type A TO THE MAX!!!

We just went over these personalities in a management class I'm in and damn if I don't fit every single part of the Type A.  Oh well I guess that just means I get things done faster.

Take the test.

Quote
You seem to be far from having a Type A personality. Your attitude to life is more of the "smell the roses" kind. You know how and when to relax. The hostile, aggressive and competitive part of you surfaces rarely. You are easy to be around, and people tend to feel relaxed and comfortable in your presence. It's a very healthy attitude towards life. Just make sure you don't miss important opportunities because of being too cool and relaxed. Picking up a challenge and competing a little bit for your place in the sun can add some spice to your life.

edit: FWIW i scored a 17. And I'm okay with that.

Like most of these tests, this is pretty general.  I think I'm a type B but not quite as much as this thing says.  The competitive part of me surfaces more than rarely.

We did something like this at work.  Only it was birds.  The eagles were the Type As.  Owls, were the logical ones. Doves were the emotional ones.  and Peacocks were the outgoing entertainer types.
On an X,Y graph I scored one point away from 0,0 toward Owl, dove.  I'm pretty balanced.

Me?  Not a chance.  I don't even need to take the test 8)

However, my father, my ex-wife and older son are COMPLETELY Type A personalities.

It truly is astonishing that my 5 year old son can be a bossy prick.  He wanted to wash a car with me a few weeks ago, and his pushy, bossy, demanding behavior actually was a killjoy for something I enjoy - car care!

At least I know he'll be successful at SOMETHING!!

Hmmm...I scored a 73.   [roll]  I'd hoped I was well on my way to becoming a Type B.  Guess I'll have to back off some more!

I know that I am way, way less Type A than I was when I was younger.  I probably could have scored about 150 ten years ago ;D .  I was probably more "successful" then.  Now I'm just plain all worn out. :P

Edit:

Heh heh.  Sometimes getting old and forgetful is a good thing.  I went back and did the test a second time.  I couldn't remember what I answered the first time.  I got a 61 on the second go around.  I feel so much more balanced now.  [roll]   [roll]   ;D

I expected to be a 30-40 max but I got a 70. Very surprising to say the least. I think of myself as a pretty chill, laid back guy (as long as I'm not sitting in traffic). I am a serious workaholic though (to a fault) , and I always have to be the best at what I do. I guess I never really equated that to a type A personality.

I laugh a lot!!  Not always easy, but I'm learning to do better!!!

Results are skewed cause of so few questions - but more questions and the type a's would have never had the patience to answer all the questions [laugh]

I see noone's ever read chistopher moore here...

wait. I assumed you folk knew how to read things other than teh interwebz  :-*

his analogy is something like this:

when the alpha-males run off to bring down the wooly mammoth, the beta-male stays back and comforts the women, ensuring his genes will pass to the next generation when not all the alphas return.

it's the 'nice guy' thing.

I'm a 44, which received the same "middle ground" "balanced" response as others have posted.  :)

While I try to remain balanced overall, what happens is that I sometimes swing from Type A to Type B.

Type A: when in traffic.  Gawd people, drive decisively!  Do you not know where you want to go?!?  Get there already!

Type B: at work, when someone sets a rediculous schedule that none of the experienced engineers believes can be met.  My attitude at that point is: it gets done when it gets done.

Otherwise I try to maintain a balanced life overview.  I have a "plan" for where I'd like to go.  Dunno how long it'll take me to get there, dunno what unplanned things God may have in store along the way, but until He directs otherwise, I have a direction to move in, and that's where I'm going.  [thumbsup]

Oh, and I don't think those who ranked in the middle necessarily qualify as beta-males.  I am very much an alpha, thought at first glace the laid-back approach may seem "beta".  The last GF thought she was dealing with a beta... some surprise when it finally dawned on her that in matters of worldview and leadership I am a strong-willed alpha, I just try not to be a prick about it.

I used to be pretty strongly type A - a perfectionist who got really stressed out by any wrinkles.  Eventually I learned to accept a little mediocrity in my life in order to appreciate the living.  So here I am in a doctoral program (high achievers) but I'm the slacker of the bunch cause I don't work evenings or weekends unless it's absolutely necessary.  Means the degree takes me a little longer but I get to have hobbies and social life while I'm here.  I think there are way too many incompetent people around me and bad drivers make me nuts, but it's an amused kind of amazement at the level of stupidity rather than something that raises my blood pressure.

I agree.  I am the same way.
Except, if someone insist on leading, I'll let them.  Until they F' it up.  Then its time for me to take the raigns(sp?) fix their shit storm and get things back on track.  I don't have to lead, until, I have to.
The type B helps there, when the shit hits the fan its the cool head that gets it solved.

Yep.

During a college project, I let the anal-retentive type-A take the lead... when he effed it up, I stepped in (since I was the #2 guy on the team, and a couple of the other team members had been my roommates and trusted my judgement).

I had no idea why I didn't just lead right from the get-go (one of the former roomies asked me why I didn't take it when we were picking the team lead... that should've been my clue).  Then I took a Myers-Briggs test, and came up as an INTJ, or "The Mastermind".  Turns out that's exactly what the Mastermind does... he/she lets those chomping at the bit take the lead... until they demonstrate incompetence.
