That is typical, I would buy it for that every day of the week. I guess its not usually the thing you look for on fleabay though  [bang]

Plus freight and conversion which is sitting at 86c right now plus the fact that it's not complianced here.
that's alot of  [bacon] for something you might only get to use on the track.

Sorry back to the dream, off to sleep sweet dreams of exhaust notes and shreading tyres.

102dB racing exhaust ..... meh, I know a couple of 620's that could trump that.

Bargain!

actually that price is a bit disappointing - thought it would be a bit higher than that - however the number of actual people who are willing to spend $100k on a bike (instead of just want to) would be tiny.

kind of like the guys that look at you in your leathers....they WANT to do what you do, but they just won't grab it by the horns (life that is!)

Don't most of them just sit on coffee tables anyway?  ;)

But seriously if you wanted a kick arse ducati trackbike you'd buy a 1098, wouldn't you?

If you want a great track bike and have $100k to spend buy a 1098r and spend the rest on tyres/fuel/a sexy transporter and a few pit girls just for fun.
But if you want something that is the bees knees can rip round a track if you have the skill and dare but also looks good on any night of the week.
Then buy an RR, I know what I kept hanging around at track on Sunday and it ain't the dozen's of 1098(s)(r)(tricolore)'s nor 848's.
Not to say that i'd kick any of those bikes to the kerb.

with a 100k you could buy 7 of these.. one for each day of the week?

Well that's 100k AUD about 65k US
Here you'd get 5 848's
In the States you'd get probably 5 also.
Funny that hey, same outcome different Countries.

Hmmmm 5 848's I could do that.
white
red

Yeah I think it would look the goods.....
I'm seeing it now, deep burnt orange gold wheels.
You'd just wanna be able to ride the thing like stink cause there might be a bid of ribbing attached to the bike.

Title: Re: D16 rr goes cheap (ish)
Post by: Betty on August 20, 2008, 06:44:50 PM
Or you could really challenge your riding to step up to the next level with a nice pink colour scheme with some purple highlights to offset those gold wheels.

Seems that my black has been found out .... it prevents drawing unwanted attention to my lack of ability.

That sold early august though, The $ was closer to .95c then. What transport and duty? 10k?. That could have been in a garage for about 80k, a saving of atleast 20k. I would take the 20k any day. If you can afford that coin you dont need it as a road bike.... Park it in the lounge room and watch it appreciate in value. I wouldn't have the talent to ride it as it was designed anyway. But I would look at it alot ;D

I'd park it in the lounge and cherish it. But I know what would happen, I'd get drunk with the boys and probably end up doing this:

[lol at the "somewhere in there is a desmodeeeechie" (sic) comment]

Edit: Damn, anyone know if you can embed a 'tube vid into these forums? or at least embed a youtube url without the forums automagically presenting the youtube player (which appears to borf if there are banners adds or advertising on the BB?)

jeez tricolore, i'm glad you're not my accountant!! [bang] for a start, it's a good $3000 for transport and "handling" charges, mainly at their end!!!! then when it gets here you pay 10% GST AND 10% import duty, then you need to get it complianced, dunno the cost on that cos it's a parralel import, that is it's the same as what you can buy here, but a mate complianced a 916SP through thoroughbred motorcycles in WA a long time ago and that cost him $4500 then!
as far as watching it appreciate??? didn't that one just sell for 20 grand less than a new one with 22 miles on it? [roll]

paul.
nice bike though [thumbsup]

There's no customs duty on motorcycle imports.

FYI

Then you have a detuned model that was supplied to parts of the USA, don’t know why but they were detuned, then you have headlight, emission, resale , problems

Then you have the service problem, With the D16RR free service only applies to point and origin of sale.I have been reading that they wont come cheap after the 3 year expires,so I wouldn't want to pay for them.

I can tell you something if I was a distributor of this machine and some one bought me a import of this caliber, He would hope he has some short of medical insurance, as I would ream him, after all where is he going to go [evil] there will only be 1 Mec in selected ducati dealers Australia wide that has the knowledge and equip needed to service this machine,

“Just park it over there and drop you trousers sir”

Gee that 20k saving is getting less and less appealing   :-[

Your right, you are lucky I am not your accountant  :P, But If you actually read the comment you would notice I mentioned there would be no need to register it therefore no compliance... ;)
But in my defence... us$61k would have been appox AU $65k + GST = $71.5 + Transport say $5k (generous) = $76.5k. I am pretty sure I said for "about $80k". No costoms duty (thnx Brimo).
I wasn't too far off the mark, but thanks for your input  [clap].

Title: Re: D16 rr goes cheap (ish)
Post by: loony888 on August 21, 2008, 08:34:00 PM
yep, i know you said there's no need to register it, but for it to ever appreciate it has to be of more value than "just" a track bike, so as dockstrada says, you need to spend more to get it "roadworthy" as well as complianced in order for it to appeal to more than a small percentage of what is already a very small percentage of riders in the market. Add to that, brimo's link does say there's no import duty or luxury tax on bikes (which is nice! ;)) you pay GST on the total spend, including freight and insurance, the cost of the bike at the exchange rate the day of the transaction and the rest on delivery, added together with 10%gst then applied. yeah it's cheapish, but only over there, of course, if another one comes up at that price feel free to buy it, i'd love to see one go from a fashion accessory to being actually used as intended.
oh, thanks for the sarcasm, nice touch [thumbsup].

My first was a garden wedding at the out-laws, finger food and the only paid help was a barman for the day.
Handed out film to all those with cameras and paid for all the developing, that saved on a photographer, meant everybody could go wild with their cameras and ended up with some good natural shots instead of the usual cheesy stuff. (apologies if you like cheesy).
Actually best wedding I've ever been to, most people pissed and /or stoned, people in the pool, had to wake up the new bride to take her home, all good clean fun.

The next one, coming up this year is celebrant on the beach at a pacific island (yet to be decided), and a small dinner party when we get back.

My mate had his at All Saints winery near Albury/Rutherglan - and that was excellent too.

and keep the ceremony brief too...that always wins points!

OK, I'll play your threadjack game

- Vineyard wedding, in the hunter,  tuscan summer theme.
- Went for the whole weekend, inc a BBQ and cricket match on the Sunday
- Live music - string quartet and soprano @ ceremony, CC and the Brothers of Oz at the reception (awesome musos and good people!).
- Small for an italian wedding - under 100 guests
- Broni did an excellent job organising, theming etc  - I just rocked up (and organised the band!)

out  [thumbsup]

My old wedding was in the garden of the outlaws. They were a fishing family so sea food was supplied all round. Just eating and drinking with family and friends.

Marriage ended in 1994....... Had mid life crisis..... Moved away from little old SA to Sydney town........ Haven't seem the ex , ex outlaws or ex friends for 10 years......  :-\

Should I do this marriage thing again, shorts and tee shirts with a barbie at the beach please........  [thumbsup]
