I just went down about 30-40mins ago, this doctor lady in a Porsche Cayenne slamed on her brakes at the intersection on Paseo and San Pedro and I grabbed to much front brakes and I just slided into her ass at around 40-50mph.
My bike looks ok, she landed on her left side so it saved my Termi exhaust lol. Broken shift lever, broken mirror, bent clip ons, alittle scratch on the tank looks like it'll buff out, I'll take it to PJ's probably tomorow to get it checked out.
I rode it home afterward, the cops were really awesome all three of them followed me home to make sure I was ok lol.
My left knee feels make the beast with two backsed up, I think the bike landed on it, I'm going to get it checked out at the UNM Hospital in like 30mins.
All my gear held up, except for my jeans lol. My Suomy Flower helmet didnt touch ground (thank god), my Dainese Santa Monica held up great just a little scratch on the metal shoulder plate, my Dainese Full Metal gloves saved my left pinky from disaster just slided on the ground my pinky feel and looks normal.
Just want to remind you guys wear your gear and pay attention... which I wasn't...
Cheers,
Bill
Shit! Damn that sucks. Get that knee fixed up! If you need a truck for the bike, you are welcome to mine and the ramps/straps, etc any time. I am headed out for the next 4 days, but Dusty has all the info on how to get the truck.
Time to mod the bike!! There is always a silver lining!
Oh, and check your steering stops on the neck of the frame....any bends, dents or chips?
Damn! Sorry to hear that...bad car bad car!!!

Hey thanks for the truck offer! I'll let Dusty know if I need to truck it down there.
The doctor said my knee's fine just for a bruse from the bike landing on it lol.
I just checked the steering stops and the neck, the neck looks perfectly fine, but the left steering stop is dented in from the impact of the landing. For some reason I dont think I actually hit her cause my forks looks perectly fine, it rode stright on the way home from the scene nothing unsual but we'll see...
Yes time for some mods lol, I was already eyeing a set of Rizoma mirrors and a set of NCR shifter and rearsets so its the perfect excuse to buy them haha.
And man that Porsche got some good brakes, Brembo 6pistons up front and 4 in the back :o. My Sport1000 barely has 2 up front lol
Thanks for the well wishes!!
Bill
Good to hear the front end is ok! Get it checked out by PJs.
Did they cite her?
I dont think so, I think I'm lucky they didnt cite me for anything lol, tailegating or something stupid. The lady was very civil, she was a physician so she was checking up on my knee before the cops and EMT arrived.
She's going to get checked up by PJ's this saturday, I'm hoping theres nothing serious.
What did the doc say about your knee? Keep us posted and let us know if you need anything. :)
Glad to hear your pinky made it through the ordeal unscathed. Not all pinkys are that lucky. Those rear-end collisions are a pregnant dog. You now belong to an elite club called " I Biffed It in 2008". I thought I was pretty special when I got the "I Biffed it on the Crest and Walked Away" title, but then Zaster came along and outdid me with his "I Biffed it on Red Mountain and Walked Away". Now we have a Rear-End Collisions of 2008 Club and Left-turning Cager Cut Me Off Club of 2008. I am a card-carrying member of all three. Isn't that special? I get a little more experienced with each encounter and right when I think I can't be any more cautious and paranoid, I have yet another humiliation. But I will continue to voyage forth on my Paladin. [moto]
Let me know if I can help in any way. I am becoming an expert on the ins and outs of insurance issues and rebuilding bikes. :-[
my god!!!
im glad ur ok tho! i know ur pain babe! let me tell ya!
im glad ur knee is ok! i finally get my MRI this week! if u need anything at all let me know!!
and i agree, nothing like the right eqipment to save an ass [moto]
Any update on the bike? your knee healing?
Hey guys, thanks again for all the well wishes!! [beer]
I dropped the bike off at PJ's on Saturday, I haven't heard anything back from them yet but from a visual walk-around they asked me if I actually did crash it lol. I already got all of my replacement parts just waiting for PJ's to give her a “ [thumbsup] she's good to go home.â€
I'm not going to claim insurance on it since all the stuff I bought totaled is less then half of my deductible ($500) lol
My knee's doing well the swellings almost gone, I have full range of movements back still a little stiff thou but overall I wouldn't have wanted any other way.
I'll keep you guys updated when PJ calls me back!
Cheers!! [bacon]
Bill
Good for you, Razgriz! [thumbsup] Can't wait to get my bike, too! Time's wasting of good summer riding. See you out there. [moto]
Update: Called PJ's earlier today, bent front wheel and disks... insurance company notified lets see what they say...
GAHHHHH its only been a week I want my bike back :'(
I hear ya, man. :( Until my clutch hand is out of the splint, I can't ride anyway, but I could be cuddlin it. The BNW/Ducati shop in the Springs said my bike is totalled. So the mad Dr. Frankenduc will have another one of mine to resuscitate. Plus DucMouse's. He's gonna have his hands full.

Was told my bike is totalled and that I have the option of buying it back at $ 4500
or getting a check for $17,000 minus the deductable.
Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, hell I'm even open to cheap shots. [evil] ;D
Wow, my first thought is Take the Money and Run! I don't know how attached you are to that bike, but it sounds right now like it's time for a new one. :-\

Don't think attachement would be a real issue especially since I came off it so easily.............. literally ;D
Oh crap Zaster, I'm sorry to hear that. I'll tell you what. Were you still thinking about rebuilding it? If you're looking for someone who's handy with stuff like that, I'd be willing to do it. Frankly that bike is to nice to throw away even wrecked. If you save yourself the $100hrly shop time, and go with aftermarket parts we can get it together, and leave a bunch of cash in your pocket. pm me, let me know what you're thinking. Hell you rode it to and from there, there is a bunch of stuff(like the tank that the insurance will want to replace but can be repaired and repainted(even with a real paint job) for far less $.

Really? the bike didn't even look that bad!
If you do buy it back, and are interested in sellin off some parts, i'm interested in buying. [coffee]
Stopped by PJ's on Saturday to pick up receipts and to discuss my options with the folks I know.
The good thing is that there are a lot of different things to consider but on the other hand I've been having a hard time making up my mind....
Thanks to all the gals and guys for offering your advice and input and especially you support [thumbsup]
too many awesome bikes out there. take the 17k +- and get a new one.

My knee's fine now, the bruising is gone but i still cant bend it pass a certain point.
My shoulder started to hurt a few days ago, I'm hoping its something unrelated lol
I really want to make tuesday ducnites but I dont think my class schedule allows any free time during the weekdays now :-\
But I'll try my best next week!!
Update: State Farm totaled the bike, but their going to give me enough to cover the loan and buy back and still have some cash left over to get her fixed up!

yh school sucks lol but this is my last year so i'll make the most of it.
I'm going to rebuild her, I think the most extensive damage is to the front wheel and the steering stop, the wheel is just a swap but I'm not sure what to do with the steering stop. Any suggestions?
Did the stop break off? If not, simple adj. can be made.

The stop did not break off, its just indented in the center where the fork impacted when i put it down (I still cant believe they total a entire bike just for this o_0).
I'm thinking just a hammer or a vice would push it back into place. [drink]
Easy Mad Max. We can fix it with an Alen & 10mm wrench. And that KICKS ASS !
can I use that word here?

I have seen vivaleduc's bike must say I LOVE it!! [clap]
Update: I settled with insurance yesterday and I brought the bike home this afternoon; I just finished replaceing everything that needed to be replaced and adjusted the steering stop bolt thing so now the clip-ons wont slap the tank any more.
I have StateFarm insurance if anyone is wondering and they treated me like how they should have treated me for the amount of premium I pay for full coverage lol
Zero hassel with the claim agent where she told me everything up front and the next day we settled and I got the settlement check.
Now I'm just waiting for the front wheel and the left rotor to arrive, might take awhile so it'll give me some time to ponder what to do with my bike!
And a big thanks for the support from the NMMR!!! [beer]
that kicks ASS !!!
That's great Raz! Remember to post pics of the progression on the restoration. It's fun to see projects like that while they are happening. :)
I would like to thank everyone for their input and advice and I hope I put it to good use:
Decided to buy back the monster and settled with the insurance company today.
I'm not sure if I'll fix it up and keep it or make someone a great deal.
Also bought a 2008 1098S last Saturday since the price was right.
Update....
Removed damaged parts, replaced brake lever, was able to adjust frame tab setting to keep the handle bars from touching the tank. Chris tells me that he can get me the paint and parts needed to make to monster look like before. [thumbsup]
yeah baby!! sounds great. cant wait to see it back on the road
She's ALIVE!!!!!!!! Here's a teaser pic.
What I learned from this accident; ALWAYS pay attention, spend my attention on the right things, and leave all other thoughts at home when I ride.
I'm still young and have a lot of things to learn, this accident has been a good lesson for me to get a grip on the dangers of riding that is not associated with driving.
Now I just cant wait to get her fully ready for the road again!!
Cheers, [beer]
Bill
[clap] She's beautiful! Congratulations! Enjoy!

They are the Carrozzeria Works Kit for the Paul Smart/Sport1000. The kit includes front and rear forged aluminum wheels, rear sporcket, and Brembo 4pison/4pad calipers, I also got their works front rotors to replace the bent oem ones. WOW the bike is a totally different beast now, turns fast stops fast and very stable through corners, also the Diablo Rossos compliments them very well.
I'm going to have PJ's flush the hydrolics and install new clip-ons before I hit the crest again. I'm going to ride the living hell out of it before the season is over lol
[thumbsup] I wanted to know about the wheels the second I saw them as well. Cool beans I'm happy for you..... before you hit the hell out of the crest and a quick reminder to everyone. The air is getting colder and the pavement isn't seeing as much sun. This is the time of year it always seems like a lot of people start wadding. Keep in mind your tires won't get as warm and tacky so we gotta start slowing it down for the winter. :P [thumbsup]
Those wheels look AWESOME, Razgriz. Aren't good tires amazing?
Crest, here we come !!!
