Title: Tail Chop on 8-23 Post by: muscle_cars_only on August 22, 2008, 08:37:41 AM So the beer tray is @ the point that it has to go. i'm going to do the chop. Before I do this is there any common "Error Traps" on this mod?
I'l also going to be cutting down the high mount exhaust, so it's not hanging past the back of the bike. I'll be doing a detailed write up with plenty of pics. to try to eliminate any future questions on this mod. Why chop your high mounts? Are they the termis? I wouldn't do that personally as I've heard you lose some torque low end despite gaining a bit of HP top end (we're talking about nominal gains really) but i wouldn't chop it if it's the DP exhaust just leave it alone- mine sticks out and it looks fine IMO. Great instructions, looks awesome, and you can get it powder coated black. I contemplated making my own but for the money the Cookie 1 is the best tail chop out there. [thumbsup]
Also, I just installed some really cool bolts that have leds in them that I got off ebay for the license plate light (it goes away when you chop the tail). They are black with really bright white leds. They look super cool at night and keep you legal. I've had numerous compliments on them. Makes it look so much cooler IMO because the red from the tailight doesn't wash out the plate. They are way bright enough to make a difference. I couldn't be happier with them. When your putting them on you'll have to go two wires into one for each bolt. Two reds to 1 yellow and 2 blacks to 1 black from the original plate light. I had some shrink crimp connectors left over from my Audi days and used those.

I called a buddy of mine that manages a conveyor company to use their wet saw , As for mounting the light and plate, I had not went to lowes for the material. I looked around their shop and found these nice SS L brackets that were slotted and SS 8" slotted banding straps. Used them to mount everything and it worked perfect. I gave him the dimensions I wanted for a permanent bracket and he's doing it on a laser then bending it for me. As far as I'm concerned the banding straps are fine( I'll upload pics when I return from Paris ) If anyone is interested in doing the chop I'd be more than happy to send you what is needed ,banding strap wise for the cost of shipping.
