So I broke down and decided that the Buell was not worth the savings and got an 03 S4R. I pick it up next week and can't wait to ride again. It has been over 2 years since I sold my R1 and have been on a bike so I guess I have to resist the temptation of the redline and take it slow for a while. I will try to get some pictures up.
I didn't get to test ride it as the guy didn't want anyone to ride it until there was money in hand, which I would do as well, so I was wondering how the power delivery on the bike is compared to my old 02 R1? Are they pretty mellow at low RPM? My R1 was a pussy cat until about 6-7K.

The power delivery on your new S4R will be the opposite of your R1. Stomps from the bottom and done by 10K or so. The R1/R6's just get going at 10K.
Gorgeous bike! [thumbsup]
Great looking machine [thumbsup]
+1 on hbliam's comments. (I've never ridden one but I've tried to follow one). [laugh]
good luck [thumbsup] boy there is nothing like the monster is there?
the ron [evil]
totally jealous. I just bought an 08' S2R. really wish I could have afforded the S4RS TRI.
That's my fave color scheme for a Monster - she's a beaut.
You're going to love it.

that blue....so sexy.
Congrats [thumbsup]
You picked da bestest color :P
I got rid of my '05 CBR1000rr for my '08 Tricolor. I gotta tell you i was sceptical at first and although my Ducati doesn't have the speed like my old bike I gotta say it's so much more comfortable and much more enjoyable to ride. But yeah..The power is oposite your R1.
;D Congrats! Just got a 2004 S4R as well in the same color. Pick it up this week! She is my first duc and wow is she dead sexy!
Congrats on a really nice bike, I use my 04 R1 as a track bike [thumbsup]
One really good thing about the earlier S4R is that a PCMusb is a "cheap" fix for fueling when performance/open exhaust and intake mods are done. And up to about 8000 rpm the 996 is, for all intent and purpose, just as fast as the deep sump S4RS model. I mean how fast do we really "need" to go - isn't 150 mph fast enough?
The suspension is sweet too when it's properly set up and long range mods could include Ohlis rear and better internals for the fork. There's a bunch of these bikes languishing in garages with few miles on em, bought by people who just thought they wanted a "hot" Italian bike, but really didn't or either scared themselves silly right after they got it.

COMPLETELY different!! I've ridden an '01 R1 so I kinda know the differences in power delivery...
-The Monster, you'll notice, will pull as hard as you want it to no matter where you are in the rev range. If you're starting to pick the bike up out of a corner and really want to "get the hell outta there", you can open up the throttle even way down low (4k'ish RPM) and the bike will pull hard. On an R1, you can still boogie on out of the corner, but you have to keep it pretty spooled up which can mean a downshift is neccesary. If you opened the throttle @ 4k on an R1 and didn't downshift, you'd be staring at your watch waiting for that kick in the pants acceleration...
-I actually really enjoyed riding that R1, it handled very nicely, but a Monster's a Monster, let's be honest!! ;D
Sweet bike man! I went to an 07 S4Rs to from a 01 R1 - the power delivery is very different but the Monster is super fun to ride and has a load of torque. You won't skip a beat on the new bike!
Likewise here. Went from an '05 R1 to an '07 S4RS. What you will notice immediately is how busy you are shifting since your only allocated 10,500 before the revlimiter kicks in. Your bike might be different.
Over all, since I don't plan on doing a track day or hitting 120 in the Canyons, I love my Monster.
Thanks for all the great comments. I can't wait to pick her up. I was amazed at looking through Los Angeles there were hardly and S4Rs for sale at a reasonable price ( 2 of the 3 I found were on this forum). I really wanted this color combination and finally found one about 150 miles away. It will be a great break in ride bringing her home. I don't think my neighbors are going to be happy when I bring this beast home though as the ZARD exhaust is far from quiet.
Its a great bike. I loved mine while I had it. Always ran great, and was fun and great handling bike.
yours looks great....best color combo
i have the same color '05 .. Congrats
you'll get tired of the white wheels though,, i got mine painted ;) ``` ehheeheehee
Got the same one and i love it! never get tired of riding it.Still can't maximize the power of this bike, which i think is too much for me,but hey...i know it's there when i need it ;D got 29k kms on this baby and still sweet to ride. [thumbsup] Enjoy and ride safe.
