Title: Whoops....
Post by: Ita on August 24, 2008, 06:58:57 PM
Just dropped my bike!!!!

Started it up for the first time in weeks...  Rode to the servo, put air in the tyres then looped it into a low side turning right into the side street.   Nothing on the road that I could see...   Just spun up the tyre an low sided....   Buggar....

Damage to clutch...  Both brake levers and bar end.   Oggy knob seems to have save everything else...

Poor me..

That a real bummer Ita, glad the Oggy's did thier job. Now that you have had time to think about it, any idea on how it happened? Did you park the bike on evil green fluid while pumping up the tyres?

I have an original clutch cover not being used at the moment if thats any help.

I've got one clutch cover and a brake lever. I can drop them off if needed.

I can also help in the procurement of CRG levers from the states.

sorry to hear about it...

she was nasty for not being ridden...you know that right!

Thanks for the sympathy guys and offers of parts....

Bike is insured and at the doctors awaiting repairs....

I really hate the fact that I'm not sure what happened.   make the beast with two backs it was quick...  30+ years of road riding and 4 seasons road racing and never had lose like it!!!

sorry to hear that Ita, hope you're OK and you're feeling better about it in a couple of days..

I did a stupid thing a while back in some gravel and ended up with a tank ding.

It starts to feel better with time!

Hey Ita,

It's always the little things that hurt the most.
Hopefully it's your pride more than your bike that is damaged.

That sux Ita!

And it sux even more when you have no idea what happened.  If you were trying to pull a power mono through an oil bath well you asked for it but when you're just tootling along ....  >:( ??? :(

Hope the repairs go well.

Oops sorry, don't want to laugh at other people's misfortunes, it was just a funny story. Just not for you.

Too bad Ita, you won't feel like a dickhead for too much longer.  :-\ You'll get her back all shiny and new lookin'.  [thumbsup]

your right, it is a funny story  [thumbsup] even I think it's funny (now), and the wife has a new camera (and I'm not allowed to take it out on a ride)

just reinforces the fact that it feels better with time (and the story tends to get more and more embellished)

So you _have_ considered the "accept the offers of parts, then take the insurance money and spend it on bling (and thankyou beer)" option, right?

Nope...  I'm just about over it to tell yas the truth...   Thinking again of selling it and going for a track bike...

Well the bike is ready, but I'm not picking it up...

I don't ride it enough and rego and insurance is a waste for something I hardly use anymore!!  I've asked them to write me a cheque...  ($13k)

Plan is to go halves with a mate in a new blade or R1 as a dedicated track bike....

Sad to hear you got rid of the roaring beast Ita, but I know you've had that on your mind for a while.

A track bike will be fun, and if you're in a different class to your mate, it will get a lot of use. I know of someone selling a dry clutch NSR250 all set up for about $4k. The clutch will still rattle ;)

Gonna think about a cheaper roady for when you feel like a ride?

Yep ya right Brendan...  I've been on the verge of this for a long time, it was the finacial hit that was holding me back, but my little spill the other week convinced me that rego and insurance was just dead money...   I asked them today to give me a price, and I've decided to take it, because I know if I ride the bike home, I wont want to sell it...  It is really great fun, but 12000kms in 4 years just doesn't justify the expense...

As for the track bike, yup Bob and I are in a different track day class...  He's FAST!!!!!!!!!   I think we'll look for a run out 08 Blade or R1...  Sell all the road gear and use that $$ for an exhaust, PC111 and race glass...

Don't think I'll ever have a roadie again...  Never say never but I'm trying to avoid the expense of rego etc...

Sorry to hear that Ita....I've spent all this WASTED time trying to be friends with you JUST so I could ride that beast! (Brendan's always talking about the airbox noise - when he's not taking pictures of phallic items anyway!)

She was beautiful and you'll have to stay in touch and keep us up to date with it all.

I'll let Dean at Dyno know that you'll be coming in!

Hah ha hah

Thanks Spider...

Change of plans anyway... I mulled it over last night, and checked the 4 sale ads on the net... Mille is worth $16k+ so I told 'em to bang their $13K offer...

Spoke to Dean at Dynoverks and he said if I want to I can put it in his shop on consignment and set my own price....

I know when I ride it home I'll change my mind about selling

Well Ita,

how about a farewell ride?
Perhaps if we all got a bit organised we can help you to turn that 12000km in 4 years into 12000km in 12 months.

Great offer mate! And I'd be there in an instant - all my riding gear is in a giant black Patagonia bag at Krooz Tunes suspension (right next door to Dynoverks).

Damn! I'm really interested in experiencing the torque curve of the S4 too  :)

That's a generous offer there Ita. BTW, the 2009 R1 is getting some big hype, big bang motor anyone? (edit: Ok so this is old news now)

Spider, would have been good to get out the the bikes today, pity I'm off to Captain Slow's (brother-in-laws) birthday BBQ now.

As for my Avatar, it's like an inkblot test your psychiatrist does, it's telling me interesting stuff about you boys..... i see a playfull puppy running towards me... woof woof he says, and then I give him a pat...

Dos, explain the R1 to me....I take it (guess?) that it has a better torque curve than the current model....

cause don't the numbers (as far as maximum) look really similar, like 2bhp more, weighs 2 kg more has 3 nm of torque as well...so it looks like the maximum numbers haven't changed much....

I thought the conversation went like this:

Dos: hey, that cloud looks like a d!ck
Wife of Dos: (giggle) it sure does, let's take a picture

...hopes out of car, giggles, takes snapshot....

Dos: hey, wife, how about you experience a little cumulonimbus for yourself?
Wife of Dos: after taking a picture of a 20km long phallus do you really think you have ANYTHING that's going to impress me?

Luckily we weren't at the Grand Canyon then eh. No I didn't put my foot in it - but I reckon I could have  [roll]

As for the R1 having a big bang engine, it's not about maximum power or torque or curves, it's like the 4th dimension of power.... delivery.
Have a go at this for some light reading Spider http://www.motorcycledaily.com/08april05_bigbang.htm

Title: Re: Whoops....

yeah, I previously read (on hellforleather.com perhaps) an explanation of 'big bang' but when they described the firing order, well, they forgot to mention the 4th cylinder - so at that point I turned off!

anyway, cheers, sounds the business.....I can completely understand the need for teenage men to be able to buy a 170bhp bike for $16,000 without any extra training required....but the government hands out speeding fines and claims it's doing it for road safety!

I met a bloke on the weekend who just bought this year's R1. He rides it in denim jeans, ankle boots and $100 gloves. I won't attend the funeral (don't think I'm invited after what I said to him!)
