I was working a bicycle race in Luray (Page Valley Road Race) over the weekend and on my way home I came across a huge accident scene on the downhill side of RT-211 East just past the the exit for Skyline Drive. There were lots of cops and and emergency vehicles and I noticed a red 1098 with a black a white graphic helmet on the seat parked behind a police car and further down the road was a yellow and black japanese sport bike all tore up standing up on its sideside, after the fact. I didnt see any other motors except the 1098 and the wrecked jap sport bike.
Is the 1098 owner lurking?
What happened?
Is the other guy OK?
Looked to me like some shenanigans with a import car club. There were lots of tuner cars pulled over too and further down the road the rest of the club members were hanging out on the side at an overlook.
sad to read....but not surprising....there are a lot of people that use Thornton's Gap as a free race track...
Lots of crashes this past weekend. I guess 'tis the time for people to get in their last shenanigans before putting it up for the season. Wait? People put their bikes up for the winter?

It's still summer and you are already talking about winter?
Just out of curiousity...
Does anyone know about the crash on 33 near the VA/WV border...didn't look good?
Be safe!!

There apparently was a fatality on or near 33. It may or may not be the same one. There was also an encounter with some gravel on a local girls ride. Three went down there. It highlights the importance of preparing for whatever may be around the bend!
Did a quick sweep of DCsportbikes.net
The fellow who lost his life 8/24 on rt 33 was named Brandon Bundy. There was another moto accident on 33 about the same time, that rider's reported to be fine
I went to my event a day early on Saturday. I took in Skyline Drive at Front Royal and I got off of it @ Rt-33 on. Man Skyline sucked on Saturday. If it wasnt the slower than usual cars it was the unknowns in the blind corners with gravel from the construction they're doing. I got fed up and got off a Rt-33. I was planning on going all the way to Waynesboro, but I couldnt take it anymore. Rt-33 is nice road, but I got off at 340 so I didnt make it to the really nice parts of it. Now I'm glad i didnt.
One thing I really like about MD back roads is I dont see nearly as much gravel on them as I did on the VA backroads.
Gravel is a common occurence out here in the country, intersections are especially nasty because some side roads are getting tarred and chipped and the gravel is pushed out onto the main road. It is also not uncommon to be rolling down a road and hit tar and chip patch work, even on major roads.
My coworker is the guy with the 1098 (not on here). The Yellow yamaha r6 is actually ok. Just a broken front rim and some scratches. Rider is completely fine. Single bike accident. The cars are the guys' brothers and friends all on a friendly ride.
Glad to hear everyone is OK!
On another note, they had 4 crashes on 33 this past weekend. 3 in the same incident, 1 just after that. The solo ended in a fatality.
Thanks for the info...I was supposed to go out that day with a few other riders. They rolled up on it right after it happened. (Rt. 33 single accident) Very traumatic, and being in the middle of the country...there was no cell reception. RIP Brandon Bundy.
Be safe all!
